Can't tell if this guy likes me or not. Works for my company but lives in another state. Met once, talked over email for several months, then saw each other again this past week. One minute he was fun and cool, but acted all cocky around his friends and was a bit of a jerk. Why do guys do this?

BTW, by saying "men only", I mean I only want answers from men, not that only men do this!

Believe it or not, men don't like making the first move in case they get rejected.

Think "caveman".
Men have certain rituals that have to be performed around the fire...most men...like 90% of us...don't even notice.
But when we are with our friends...we truly are ourselves...but we are the self that hangs with the boys...the self we most like to be. The self we are most comfortable being.
The more often we hang with the boys...and the larger our circle of male friends gets...the more likely we'll behave like this.
It usually changes with maturity...or serious intent...that's the time he'll hear his friends tell him he's "whipped".
The way he is with his friends, is an excellent indicator of his true nature. If your impression of him is that he behaves like a jerk...and not the roguish behavior some women like...but a real jerk. Then I would say,
...he must be a jerk.
And there's no fine line between "being one of the boys" and being two-faced.
Go with your gut.

Just stay out of his friends circle, we all need to feed our ego, something that happens quit often is that we like the girl but she aint the supermodel our friends expect and if on top of that we act sweet our friends turn into a pain in the ***, and so the girl cuz she aint gonna feel confortable.

Women Also: Why do you send mixed signals?
I don't think this is gender specific. It is however a normal thing. Most people don't know what they want, but they do know they have an image and how people see you is important. He probably didn't know how to act in the situation presented.

well my friend since I have done' this on several occassions let me tell you why.....guys must have that assh*le macho persona....if my buddies see me sweet talking you and holding your hand. opening the car door and every other door you walk through....most importantly love you.....and not be using you for a piece of ***...then I'm a fool, sucker, p*ssy whipped, and everything else...and because god knows that when I'm old my friends are gonna matter I should trash my relationships.....so I screwed up every relationship I had going for me.....then when I met my wife....they tried to be like dude your whipped blah blah blah....so I raised my leg in a backward motion and kicked all of my "friends" to the curb...no granted I have no friends.....a few buddies I drink with or shoot pool with...but I have love and its gonna last forever....so guys are immature and if their friends say something because they don't have anybody then your gonna be treated like meat....yes hate men men suck die men die.......I hope you find the one thats willing to give up his "friends" for you love

He is insecure, and probably intimidated by women. If your interested in him help him out, and ask him out. I'm not sure that if you think he sometimes acts like a jerk if you should persue this.

Guys do this so their friends won't think that they have feelings for a female. It's juvenile behavior at any age.
