Not sure where all of these answers are coming from, but I'm a retired cosmetologist, and from what I learned in school ( I went to 2 in the U.S. and 2 in Europe) is that the size of the pore a hair grows from, determines the type of hair you have. The less round the pore the more curly the hair. However if the pore is more like a slit, the more straight and flat a hair will be. The smaller the pore, the more curly the hair will be. The number of pores determiners the thickness. The larger the circumference, the finer the hair. In conclusion, if the pore doesn't chance, the hair will not. The weight of the hair, as it gets longer, and heavier, will cause some pores to become less round, thus becoming more curly. This doesn't change the pore permanently, because the type of pore you are born with is determined by the genes. Check out cosmetology book at the library to learn more.

Well it depends, how old is the child. It just depends sometimes. If the child had long hair and the curls were in the long hair, then I would wait. Usually if they have curly hair the hair is more curly when it is cut. No weight to hold the curls down. It may be more of a wave than curl.

Yes and being a typical kid - he or she will moan like hell about it. people with straight hair want it curly and kids with curly hair want it straight. But at least you can curl straight hair easier than straightening curly hair! But frizzy hair is the worst, I'm glad I don't have that. I can sort mine out with shampoo and gel! It's very fine and very straight. But my younger brothers have gone grey and I haven't! LOL

my son had lots of lovely curls in his until his auntie took him for his first haircut at the age of 17 months!
he lost all of the curls and so far - he is nearly 4 - they haven't grown back again. he has got a slight wave in the hair but that is all. his daddy has a tight curly hair style, but mine is straight. so we are pretty much waiting to see how it turns out... you will have to wait and see...

They may not. When my sister was little she had straight hair that went down to her chin and perfect finger curls that went from her chin to her shoulders. My mom cut all the curls off thinking that they would come back. Today my sister has grown her hair down to her lower back and and it is all straight.
