I was just given an unexpected $2/hr raise (there was a note in my check explaining why).

Should I just thank her verbally or would it be okay to give her a thank-you card?

I work in a small store and we're all fairly close (even with the owner/manager).

Thank her in a specific way--Tell her how such a large raise is going to affect your life--you can now buy some item, provide something for someone etc. Then be a loyal worker and exceed all of her expectations!

Yes, thank her personally and continue to work hard. I'm sure she thinks you deserve it and what she wants most from you is to continue the good work and not to quit on her. You might want to buy her some nice pastries (2-4pc) for her tea time as a small token of appreciation.

I would say that a verbal thank is enough and it's a nice gesture. Congratulations for the raise.

I don't think its necessary to thank her verbally. She obviously gave you a raise because you deserved it...You should give yourself a pat on the back!

not quitting.

I haven't had a raise in a year, and when I told them I was leaving they decided another 36¢ an hour would be a good enticement to stay... I politely declined.

I think a thank-you card is always acceptable. If you are very close, just treat her to lunch at her favorite place, or bring in breakfast one morning.

The best way to thank your boss is to continue your good
work performance that got you the raise.

A simple verbal thank you would be best. Don't dwell on it and continue to work hard. Congrats to you!
