If I know a drunkard who is trying to give up drinking and I say to my friend that he will never do it, does that mean the guy HAS TO have another drink?

Judas was not technically part of God's plan and therefore exonerated. Jesus even made the comment that it would have been better if Judas had not been born. God knew that mankind in general would etiher accept Jesus as Messiah or they would not. Betrayal is part of the fallen condition of man, and evil people would always be around until the "end times." God knew ahead of time that it would be Judas, NOT because he had permission to betray, but because he knew how Judas would act. This was used in God's plan, but not condoned, because if it was not Judas, it would have been someone else. There were other people who would have betrayed him as well.

I think the concept of free will has been warped over the years. Judas chose of his own will to betray Jesus, just as we chose to sin against God or not. We are presented with choices all day long. I can chose to lie or not too, steal or not too, etc. I can also chose to follow Christ or not. No one make us chose a life with Jesus. Just as Peter chose to deny Jesus three times Judas betrayed Him. Now as far as prophecy goes, it comes from God. Think of God as the author of a chose your own adventure book you are reading. The book has many different endings. But based on your choices in the story He can tell you how it is going to end. God just knew that eventually someone would betray Jesus and that man just happen to be Judas. I know this isn't the best explanation but hopefully you understand what I'm driving at? God Bless

I've asked myself about this a lot as well. My conclusion is that Jesus spent three years with Peter and Judas. What is more, he could see into a person's heart. Thus he predicted what they were going to do in the same way you could predict what your mother would do in a given situation. Something that for me is a bit more troubling, and which I'm still working on, is that passage in Exodus. The one where Pharaoh keeps letting the Hebrews go, but then 'God hardened his heart' and so he rushes out to get them all back. Of course, maybe the answer to that one is simply the point of view from which it is told. The Hebrews want a more spectacular story, and they attribute Paraoh's wavering to God's direct intervension.

Judas was confused. He saw Jesus Christ in the company of woman , sinners and the out cast of society. When he saw Mary Magdalene anoint Jesus with an expensive ointment that was the last straw; he was so hurted he went to Jesus' enemies and betrayed him for pieces of silver.

I am not sure that there was a prophecy stating that he would betray Jesus I just think that Jesus foresaw that he would be betrayed by those closest to him including Peter who denied him three times to save himself.

In God's plan there is always free will but that is not to say that other influences won't affect our decision or attempt to affect our decision. we just like to think there is no free will because then we don't have to take responsibility for our own actions and decision.

I'm a Christian and I've always wondered about this too. I guess that if Judas hadn't betrayed Jesus (and Pilate condemned Him), somebody else would have.

It's almost as if we should thank both of them for, in effect, bringing Christianity to fruition. It's rather odd..without evil, Christianity wouldn't be possible...or necessary either, I guess.

People that read the Bible without some sort of religious teacher standing over their shoulder realize that Jesus picked Judas to turn him over.

The nature of God is a liberal, so He let Judas exercise his crooked ways! Same to us we may think we can do away with it but a day is coming when we shall account for all our acts, whether good or evil.

Offcourse he had a free will...God just fore-saw what he will do and that is why it was reflected in the profecies...
Besides, he had free will top repent and get back on track after betraying Christ, why didn't he? It was not forced on him to take his own life and die in his sin.

I hope this helps.
