I'm a retired cosmetologist and was one for 50 years. It's been my finding that most people that say they have oily hair, doesn't have oily hair at all. Most over the counter shampoos have ingredients in them that will coat the hair, making it appear oily. The more you shampoo with that same brand, the more coated each individual hair becomes. Leaving the hair to look stringy and oily. Manufactures add these ingredients to give the feel and appearance of silky soft hair, but only for a few hours. Those ingredients will attract dust, and air born pollinates, like a magnet. The more coated the hair becomes over the course of the day, the more space there is between each individual hair. With all that said, you can strip the coated hair and start over. The way I do this is to apply a good quality window cleaner that has ammonia in it. This is applied to dry hair, being very careful to protect the eyes, to a very wet state. Leave on for 30 min. covered with a plastic cap, then shampoo with a good quality shampoo. Ask you beauty shop for the kind they carry. After you shampoo out the window cleaner, your hair will feel very dry. You can test my theory by leaving hair like this for about 12 hours. If your hair still feels dry, you don't have oily hair, and it is the shampoo you are using. I do however, follow this ********* method with a hot oil treatment. Apply a good light olive oil, warmed in the mirowave for a few secounds. Be sure to test oil before you apply to the hair. Cover with plastic cap and leave on for 30 min. and shampoo again with a good shampoo free of any parafin or other coating ingredients. Never shampoo hair with super hot water, always use only warm tempatures. Hot water bring more oil to the surface. Good luck.

it is exspensive. but go to a beauty salon and get a clarifing shampoo. there is a difference between store brand and a salon shampoo. i have the same problem. light hair and oily. if you get there shampoo you can go 3 days without washing your hair again. i tryed it to see how well it worked. it is worth every penny. remember this and save your shampoo. if you have short hair you only need a dime size amount in your hand never go over a quarter size amount. if you do you are just wasting your shampoo.

I have very oily hair and scalp. I wash it everyday. I tried to go every other day as my stylist suggested and the oil never got better. It also helps to fully dry your hair after washing. Someitme coloring will also help tone down the oil--make sure you go to a reputable stylist for that--otherwise it will backfire and fry your hair instead.

If I do not have the chance to wash it, I put baby powder or sented powder in it and brush it through completely. Make sure you wash your hair very well the next day so you don't clog the pores in your scalp.

You do not need to wash the oils away, use a cheap conditioner as a shampoo. rinse it out completely than use a better conditioner and don't rinse it all out. When you get older and your hair starts to turn gray the grays always come in really dry. Those oils are essential for healthy hair. I learned all this through alot of experience. also a website helped called shampoozeled.

don't use sun-silk u can use loreal shampoo(volume for normal hair) or garnier anti breakage ,it is less oily and also will moisturize your hair without increasing the oil content and it also give volume to it. always buy a shampoo which is good don't go for cheap ones as they may damage your hair ultimately
