The Shock Leader Knot...

The best knot is a blood knot. Use the thinnest but strongest shocker you can find. I use a sixty pound leader with eighteen pound mainline for beachcasting.....with a five ounce sinker.
This link is for flyfishing but its the same knot. Remember to wet the knot before pulling it together.

i used to use 50lb drennan greased weasel shock leader, flatten the end with a pair of pliers then heat a sewing needle up with a match/lighter and melt an hole about 5mm up the flattened line. when the hole hes cooled down(lick fingers to cool) thread your main line through the hole and then Tye a slip knot. i used this for years and not once did it fail me,don't use it now thou as i go course fishing.

Personally mate, I'd use a slipknot, assuming your leader has a loop.
