Basically, fats accumulate if you take in more carbs and sugars than you need. So either cut the intake, or use more so you need more, or both.
My own experience:
I'm relatively lazy, so jogging isn't my cup of tea. I have lost 6 kilos in 6 weeks (from 82kg, I'm 1m76); in 3 months I lost a total of 9kg, and it has been a year since I kept the weight off.
What I did is simple. I switched a meal. Instead of having lunch at the cafeteria, I have a meal replacement which has the vitamins, minerals, and enough protein so I don't feel hungry. I also take some supplements, vitamins and some herbs to help my metabolic rate. The final step is to drink a lot of water as your system cleans itself.
I also do yoga, a short session of hatha yoga may be thrice a week; but I don't think that has that much to do with weight loss, just feel better.
Now I just stick to the meal replacement since if I were to go back to eating cafeteria lunch, I'd skew the equation again and put on weight. However, I have normal dinners, go to the pub and do not miss 'normal' lunch.

It depends how much weight you are talking about. If you are talking about a few pounds (i.e. 5 or 6) this is feasible. If you are talking about more than this, it is better to take a bit of time over it. A weight loss of 1-2lbs a week is healthy (lose more than this and you will be losing muscle, including heart muscle - not good) plus chances are you will pile the weight back on plus more the minute you stop 'dieting'.
The answer is to change the way you eat - focus on high fibre, low fat and good protein/wholegrains. Cut out junk and sugar and move more. Practice portion control too. There are plenty of sites online about healthy eating. Google a few to get an idea of what you should be eating. Above all, think of it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet because this is something you will have to do forever if you want to stay slim.

Depends, do you want it to stay off or just for an event i.e a wedding?
If its a wedding then detox or a radical diet like Lighter Life or Cambridge is a good answer. Detox is very short term but lighterlife/cambridge can loose you a stone in a month and if you stick to the plan it will stay off. Both seem expensive, about £35 a week but how much do you spend on food now? These diets are £35 for your entire weeks meals. Which are basically shakes.
You will be hungry but its the only way to loose weight so fast without surgey.
The ideal way is to reduce your calaroies and attend the gym, works by reducing your calaroies and builing muscle which by its very nature EATS FAT!
But how you look isnt about weight, I dont care how much I weigh as long as I look good. Gym helps by toning and pulling in your belly using your natural muscles. Forget those toning belts they dont work (trust me I know). Each person is different so what they should weight varies. But gym and toning up is the best way to go.

Obsession with weight-loss is a condition in itself and can lead to anorexia and/or bulimia. If you are generally healthy, you should not worry too much. It is not wise, nor natural, to lose too much weight in a short time - if you lose weight quickly, you will also regain it quickly. Thus the best method is to reduce your weight gradually - OK this may seem to take forever, but it will lead to a more permanent weight-loss. However, this can only be achieved with will-power, sensible eating and usually somewhat of a change in your lifestyle. Start as you mean to go on, and maintain that regime - not just till you achieve your target weight, but as your new way of life.
They say that you are what you eat - so look into that. Don't over-worry about calories - too much hype in that area - the human body NEEDS a certain level of calorie intake to achieve a satisfactory metabolism.
On exercise - don't rush out and buy an indoor gym. Just think a little - do I need to drive down to the corner shop when I could walk there nearly as quick (and have no parking problems)? Healthy exercise is an integral part of any proper weight-loss diet and needs to be incorporated in your daily routine. Putting you feet up in front of the TV with a bag of crisps in one hand and a bottle of Coke in the other ... not what I mean!

You need to do your own research on what I tell you. This is just a general outline and much false information, from even respected sources, surrounds the weight loss question. You know, who wants to kill the golden goose!!
My opinion for fastest weight loss is in order of effectiveness:
1. Fasting
2. High Fat/semi-fast
3. Low Carb
3. :Ph Balance/quasi fast
Fasting is eating nothing and drinking nothing except water.
Keep fully hydrated. The loss is two pounds per day. This may not show up on your scale until the morning of the third or fourth day; but sometimes sooner. Do not do over three or four days unless you have done your homework, listened to others who have fasted and, if you have medical issues, checked with your doctor. ***Anyone who tells you that a total fast does not include water is insane.
High fat: A high fat diet involves 20 carbs or less per day, and no more than 1,000 calories per day. What you eat, which is precious little, must be upwards of 75 per cent fat. - 80 to 90 per cent is best. Loss is 1 1/2 pounds per day. Unlike a total fast there is almost no loss of muscle tissue. This diet is nicely outlined in the Atkins' New Diet Revolution book on pages 272 to 274. Other facets of this diet are from page 64 forward. This diet was developed by Alan Kekwick and Gaston Pawan. A team tester was Frederick Benoit. All are British researchers. This research may be on the Web. I have been meaning to look it up for my own data.
Next in line is the low carb Atkins and Ph balanced diets; which focus on good water and low alkaline foods. These, and some others, are good for a pound per day, if strictly followed.
If you are looking to loose six to eight pounds, fast for three or four days. You should not resume your normal diet for a like term. For example, fast three days, day four eat only 1/3 of normal; day five, eat only 1/2 of normal; day six, eat 2/3 of your normal and finally on day seven you can eat a normal amount. So you see a three day fast really involves six days and a four day fast involves eight days of behavior modification.
If you have never fasted before you will find three days enough. It takes a lot of will power to maintain. Kekwick diet will give you a 15 pound fat loss in 10 days. I would find it easier to do a three day fast one week, skip and week and do another, coming up with a 12 pound loss of mostly fat and a lot less food prep and kitchen hassle..

I was about to answer this when I read Tommy's answer; which largely uses most of what would have been my suggestions. It is an excellent answer and deserves the 10 points. The only other issue is maintaining the weight loss in the long term; few if any are able to do that. Good luck though.

Loads of water, home made and vegetable soups you make yourself, no cream, are the fastest way to lose weight. Looking on the web also has great suggestions on losing weight.
Half a plate of whatever you eat normally, side plate etc.... is another way
.
Snack on Melon, veg and fruit with high water content, drink loads of water, a hunger diminishes. Any exercise, swimming, housework, gardening, biking etc.... walk whenever you can. Keep busy.
Good luck

I advise ...it really is extremely significant that you devour healthful, your toddler will take in each of the supplementations and all what he desires to strengthen healthful from everywhere he can locate on your body, yet there'll be a level the position all of your food is purely not adequate and your life and his will be compromise. How much weight?
Generally, it is very difficult to maintain, and not good for your health, if you lose more than a pound a week.
So, in a few weeks, you can use, by clever eating and exercise, a few pounds. Check with a dietician.
