He is an outside dog. He runs and hides everytime the water is turned on. We have to play a different trick everytime we bathe him. I'm running out of tricks.

My dogs don't care for bath time either, but it is a necessity. I simply take the leash and attach it to a tree, and keep the dog tied up while I am bathing him. Then when it's over, I turn him loose to run wild through the yard, and we play games with the towel to dry him off has much as possible, and then I give him treats. He may not like the bathing part, but he has come to love the play time afterwards so he tolerate the bath time.

Chows are notorious for HATING a bath. They have extremely dense fur next to their skin, which makes bathing and drying very tedious. Really, a Chow doesn't need to be bathed so much as it needs to be brushed and combed. Their skin tends to be dry, so too much bathing isn't good. If your dog is young enough, maybe you could begin slowly and teach the animal to enjoy being brushed and combed. Maybe just take one section at a time and do a thorough job, being sure to brush ALL THE WAY TO THE SKIN, as they have an UNBELIEVABLE undercoat.
You might consider a trip to the groomer two or three times a year. DON'T LET ANYBODY TALK YOU INTO SHAVING DOWN YOUR CHOW. If this is done, it eventually damages the hair follicles and their undercoat cannot shed out properly.

Your chow is like all chows. Take him to a professional groomer. The groomer can get out all the undercoat and check for fox tails, bugs, burrs and more. A normal groomer will Brush your chow first, cut the nails, bathe with a Massaging Bat system such as the hydro surge which will get all the way down to your chows skins (which on a chow is hard to do) they will condition your chow, blow dry it with a High Velocity dryer which can get your chow completely dry in about 30-40 minutes. While blow drying your chow the hair will fly as the High velocity dryer is strong enough to blow out most of the under coat, then the groomer will brush and comb your chow out, Finnish de-shedding it, shave the bottoms of the paw pads and neaten up the sanitary areas. At my salon I have Chow that come in every 4-6 weeks to help their Pet owners with the task of keeping their Chows cool, during the summer and fresh and happy during the winter.

Chows are extremely hard to bathe under the BEST circumstances. The coat is hard to wet down to the skin. I would take to a professional groomer, maybe 3-4 times a year. If you cant get a groomer to hand wash him, find one that has a machine called "The Pet Spa". It works wonders for any dog that is either hard to handle or is hard to bathe. I have a furry little mongrel stray that adopted me, and the only way I can bathe him is to use Waterless shampoo. He turns into Cudjo when the water gets turned on. He doesn't mind the waterless shampoo at all. I simply put it on and rub it in, then wipe it off and brush him. Maybe the rubbing and grooming is what he likes about it. All I know is it's easy and works.

maybe a sprinkler system? he can't very well avoid the water if he's outside when the water is turned on?
Otherwise all you can do is just put him on a leash and force him to get a bath. He should get used to it after a while.
Just like a kid with vegetables.

Bring him inside and wash him in the tub. Once he's in, turn on the water. I always leave our dog's collar on, so I can hold her, and get in with her so I don't have to worry about her getting out. Fortunately, she's a lab, and puts up with almost anything, even getting insulin shots, if she knows she gets a treat afterward.

u could give her a bath in the bath tub, maybe buy one of those pet shower heads...or i believe the normal ones are called handheld shower heads, i prefer them because they have more speeds, but to each is own. that's how i give my dogs a bath, i find it easier to hold them.
