If you enlist into the armed forces, is it the law that your employer has to give your job back to you when you are discharged?

If you enlist in the active duty military, you go to work for the Army full-time, therefore leaving your old job. If you enlist as a reservist, your employer must hold your job for you in times of training and deployment. Some special cases exist where an employer will continue to pay you partial pay during your deployment. There is also insurance that can be had for this for certain situations, like you are a doctor in private practice and you are called to reserve duty...your pay would normally take a huge hit.

Yes, but many but a lot of insensitive employers break the law. Its really hard for some vetereans who loose their job. Also its the law that they get promotions and pay raises and vaction time as if they have never left their job. A lot of employees dont know about that, and the veterean looses out on pay raises and promotions that they should have gotten, because it goes to somebody else. Usually the veterean wont argue about not getting promoted because that might get them fired, which is illegal.

Yes, it is the law in the US, but as a practical matter when you get back expect to find your job crammed with a half-dozen illegal mexicans who are all working for a total pay of less than half of what you were making.

No not in the US if you "inlist" if you are in the reserves and are called up to active duty then yes your job must be held. But to inlist you do not have the right to have your job held. Most employers will but they dont have to.
