I steam fruits for my 7 month old daughter, I have stove top steamer- that softens it ... then I can add milk or water to make it thinner, when i didnt have the steamer I used to peel the apple, make small pieces and boil in as little water as possible (cover and boil then u need less water), then i would puree it in the same liquid so all the nutrients remain

I just peel, core and slice thinly put in a saucepan with a couple of shakes of ground Cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of sugar with a little bit of water and simmer until tender or really soft (however you want them) then Use a blender or stick mixer to puree them. Both of my girls had them when they were really small and they both still adore them now. When I want to make apple pie that what I do without pureeing them and put it in between two sheets of puff pastry easy, best dessert ever hope that helps you

SInce boiling and steaming you lose nutrients in the steam you put the cut up pieces of apple in one of those boilable bags and then boil until tender then mash and if you need to add any liquid to it add a touch of apple juice.
