Generalyy you don't protect a cell on its own, you tend to protect the whole sheet but leave some unprotected. To do this follow the instructions:

1. Highlight the cell you wish to protect.
2. Right click on the cell
3. Choose Format cell
4. Choose protection
5. Make sure the "Cell Locked" box is unticked
6. Click on Tools (on the top toolbar)
7. Choose Protect - Sheet
8. Enter a password to protect the sheet (if you want)

You will then have protected the sheet, eexcpet the cells you highlighted.
