No, not in the least. We don't even really control who our president is because there's the electoral college. Money controls America.

Sadly America seems not to be controlled by anyone. The President has powers limited and needing agreement by Congress and vice versa and both seem in almost permanent conflict.
What Americans see as successful big business companies put pressure on politicians to do what they want them to and by giving big donations, building plants in the right state etc get their way. All these companies are not really American but are all multi national. All these companies are just chasing bucks.
If things get tough just watch them leave and set up elsewhere. Even icon like Microsoft would do it.
Perhaps that is why America is steadily loosing influence in the world and other countries like China and Russia are catching up so fast.

Of course, not. National governments and democracy exist no longer. We are being controlled by supra-national and international organizations.
