I'm not a Christian myself, so I hope you'll excuse me answering a question aimed specifically at people who are. I think perhaps Christianity might benefit from less literature, and more personal manifestation of Christ's ideas. That would allow people's curiosity to bring them in, by virtue of the thought "Wow...those look like some cool, happy, kind helpful people... Wonder what they're so happy about. Think I'll ask them..." rather than their image of Christians being people who are consumed with conversion, which appears to be a common perception, and a big turn-off, in many Western cultures that have been exposed to the New Testament for hundreds of years.
Just a thought, meant in a helpful spirit.

Wow, that's a hard question. I'm not sure if anyone remembers the song by DC talk called "What if I Stumble", but at the beginning it talks about the greatest cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who are living a hypocritical life. I don't know what can be done, since we are all sinners saved by grace, all we can hope for is to do our best in life. I know that even though I'm a pastor's kid I still sin every day, many times each day. Most people that know me would say that I'm a "Great example of a Christian", but the truth is that we all sin no matter how righteous we try to be. Christ is the only example we can go by. My only suggestion is that we as Christian need to portray the model of Christ as best we can. The Bible says that we should be lights set on a hill so that all can see us. It also says that we are the light of the world, meaning that people should see Christ in us. We aren't supposed to try to fit in, but be an example of someone who is running towards righteousness. The Bible also talks about us being like salt. Salt makes you thirsty, and so we as Christians should make people thirst for the living water of Christ. The only hope for our world today is for Christians to lead by example.

Burn all those who are not following Christ's teachings...you did it in the past so just do it again and get the bonfires and griddles going, renew the witch-hunts of yore and burn them along with the heretics and the buggers and all other dissenters, the smoke should blacken the sun and darkness and ignorance shall reign once more over the whole face of the Earth.
It's a religion with a pretty filthy history let's be honest now!
The world can go to hell on a pudding trolley... just keep promoting Christianity!

your information is not all that correct. It wasn't until about the 15th - 16th century that Bible scripture was even available to the common man. Your statement, first, suggests that the "western world" has existed for 2000 years, when in fact it is only 230 years old. not counting the days of colonization.
Before the Bible was translated to english by two men Wycliff and later Tyndale, who completed the translations to english of the Old and New Testament. (Both were executed by the "church" in their time, for heresy) Before that, the Bible was only in Greek and Latin and even most literary scholars didn't fully understand them. So let's make the question real in respect to the amount of time that scripture was available to "common man". Which by the 15th century, the "church" had distorted the truth and was already corrupt in their doctrines.
Next, to discuss the "why" and remedies for it:
Why is because men are prideful and self-righteous by nature and cannot accept that in spite of their good deeds that they are still sinners in need of Christ the Savior, the sacrifice for their sins before the Holy Father. They believe they will attain heaven through their works alone. Another poison of the mind, taught thru history by various denominations. Also through time, people have gotten un the mind set where they don't want to be preached to. They don't want to hear about Hell and eternal damnation. They only want the message of hope and mercy, without the consequence of wrong action. "God is love" is what they will accept in their minds. It excuses them when they behave in ungodly manners. The remedy? Preach the 2nd coming, preach hell-fire and eternal damnation, and preach God's Law! If they will allow the spirit of conviction to minister to their heart, God will change them. If they won't listen, then God will burn them. It's that simple. And it's their choice.

Really? So there are not faith based benevolent programs like hospitals, missions, shelters, food banks, childrens homes, orphanges, christian foster homes, missionaries, schools, respite, counceling or relief organizations, christian broadcast radio, television and satillite? Wow. No wonder the world is going to Hell in a handbasket. Oh...maybe you mean all of Christs teachings except "love they neighbor". Its funny cuz I was under the impression that the faith based infrastructure is the saving grace when ever there is a disaster or catastrophe of some sort..cuz by the time the U.N. and the rock stars get there...people are typically dead. Huh? Interesting...yeah..we better think of something to remedy this..quick. ~J~ <><

I do not think that it is of our concern as to what will remedy what because there are far more interesting inquiries that we can go for. Like, how we can make a fellow human being breathe easier because of our existence. Just like what Plato have said, Justice is by minding your own business. Not taking this rudely, don't you think that it would be justice for all of us if we'd stop criticizing? Well, for sure this is due to the fact that none of us are perfect and remedy to our fellow's wrongdoings should not be of our concern.

falco has a good answer. we need to live the Christian life more. get more real about what and who we are suppose to be. if we were living the "Acts" church then the world would know with out a doubt that there is something real and different about us. one day God will make us choose, Him or the world.
