Airliners fly from west to east at the same time as it is element of their course. they don't do it in the journey that they do no longer might want to. Airliners attempt to fly the shortest achievable course from departure to arrival, and contained in relation to la-Sydney, it is in the course of the Pacific Ocean. besides the undeniable fact that, airliners even might want to consider site visitors kinds and triumphing winds aloft, and some airliners have regulations on how some distance remote from land they can fly at the same time as flying over water. All of those can substitute the routing so as that it's not unavoidably the shortest achievable course between airports. some plane also do merely no longer have the selection for particular direct flights, and an instantaneous flight from LAX to Sydney is 7488 miles, very nearly all of it over water. Few plane can take care of this. those that can't might want to quit for gas alongside the way, which will require significant detours.

Depends on where you live and where you're going.
In the US, I fly either Southwest (excellent and cheap).
Overseas I fly Continental or it's partner airlines like QuantasKLM, Korean Air, Delta, Emirates,British European, Northwest, etc.
Have you signed up for a frequent flier program? If so, then get a credit card for that airline and charge everything you buy on that card. I traded in 60,000 Continental miles for a free round trip from Baltimore, Maryland to Cairns, AUstralia (Great Barrier Reef) and back. Total cost: $95, airport taxes. Quantas even got the visa for me, saving another $10. Doing your homework pays off!
Good luck!
