chihuahua's in particular are usually pretty hardy little breeds, from time to time, they tend to get asthma, but over all with good diet, and lots of love, they stay as healthy and well as any other breed of dog. there is only two reasons for poor health in dogs, and size/gender/breed dosen't matter. 1. nutritional needs are not met, or 2. poor genetics, from past generations that have become dominant in the dog, over time and poor breeding. such as back yard breeders/puppy mills, or just genetically prone to problems. i have a mix that has allergies, which is unusual, but her family background, had a terrier that was genetically allergy prone, and she was the off spring of that genetic inheritances.

Some species have bigger issues with specific health problems. It has nothing to do with the size in itself.

Though in some cases size does matter. Like the bulldog has nose and breathing problems because of it's small nose cavity.
