Well...

The first 2 brothers sold 25 sets... i.e. one brother sold 15 sets of 2 pens @ $5 each and the other one sold 10 sets of 3 pens @ $5 each, totalling to 25 sets.

The 3rd person was selling 12 sets of 5 pens at $10 each, therefore to have a fair comparison, it was as if he was selling 24 sets at $5 each - having one set less.

Other way to find where the $5 dollar has gone is in the average price of both scenarios.

In the scenario with the 2 people, the average price of one pen is 125/60 = $2.083
In the second scenario, the average price is 120/60 = $2

Therefore the difference per pen is 2.083 - 2 = 0.083
Checking this, we will find that 0.083 * 5 = 5 approx.

Case Closed :)

What $5? 30 pens sold at 2 pens for $5 = $75. And 60 pens sold at 5 pens for $10 = $110. :)

He sold 60 pens total.

You say he sold 5 for $10 (being the sum of 3 for $5 plus 2 for $5).

He received $120 as you say.

He therefore sold 12 "lots" of 5 pens.

He therefore sold 12 times (3 for $5) = 36 pens at this rate
He therefore sold 12 times (2 for $5) = 24 pens at this rate

He sold more pens at the lower price (3 for $5).

This is where the $5 went.
