" Love the Christian. Hate Christianity "

I thought it was interesting to see the "Love the sinner, hate the sin" line used in this way.

Very good quote. We always have to remember that most people are victims of beliefs imposed upon them by upbringing and society, rather than cynical perpetrators of deliberate untruths. We should make an effort to ridicule and condemn the beliefs without treating the believers disrespectfully. I know I'm not always as good at that as I should be.

I'm divided.

Sometimes I hold Christianity to blame for the bigots who hide their hate behind the mask of Christianity. Sometimes I say 'religion in and of itself is neutral; it's the followers who have the potential to use it for bad purposes'. I'm not really sure which it is...

Of course, as has been pointed out before, 'Love the sinner; hate the sin' is not practical in any way. And it's usually interpreted as 'Pretend to love the sinner while in fact treating him like a leper'...

Icarus explained it perfectly. He does the same thing as the quote, only from a different perspective.
"Love the sinner, hate the sin" is just that. Christians believe that we are ALL sinners. The sin itself is seperate from the sinner. The bible teaches us that we are at war, spiritually, and the enemy is not easily identified. We are to remember that we are battling Satan, not individuals.

Very good.

It's heartbreaking to think where we might be today, but for the religious people fighting progress in science, and medicine, and psychology.

The point isn't to hate anyone.

I hate the the foolish beliefs, which have led to some much pain and suffering, throughout the ages.
