To the agnostics, the world is the consequesnce, or the effect of a cause whom we choose to call the creator, or GOD. Effect is that which must logically follow from a cause so therefore, in the most basic sense, to the agnostice who don't like to take sides, there is a "logical" reason unless you do not belive in the notion of cause and effect which all modern science is basically based upon.

To the athiest, the same argument applies as well which believes there is no God. But they do not present any concerete argument to the contrary of God's existence either.

Either way i think both terms can be categorized as non-believers in God or theistic.

The term 'agnostic' was coined by Thomas Huxley and it refers quite simply to a person who holds the view that it is wrong to assert the truth of a proposition without logically satisfactory evidence.

So, an agnostic would say that it's wrong to say "God exists" or "No gods exist" without the argument or evidence to back it up. Moreover, the agnostic would say that it's immoral for a person to tell someone else that they *ought* to believe in the existence of a god or gods without providing logically satisfactory evidence to support that claim.

A 'theist' is defined as someone who believes in the existence of a god or gods, so an atheist is anyone who is not a theist.

So you can be agnostic and also an atheist, or agnostic and a theist, or not agnostic and an atheist, or not agnostic and a theist.

Addendum: 'Agnostic' does *not* mean someone who isn't sure whether a god exists, or is sure that we can't know whether a god exists, or any other definition. The word means what Thomas Huxley intended it to mean when he invented it, as detailed above, and don't let anyone tell you any different.

the indoors maximum concept in a god (or greater effective than one) could desire to be categorised as being non secular in itself. greater non secular remark is not sensible for this style of individual to be non secular already. a spiritual individual does no longer inevitably have self belief in god yet does have ideals linked with non secular concerns and those comprise god, guy and nature. you are able to no longer have self belief and not have self belief on a similar time different than as an agnostic, who's a individual who's sitting on the fence, uncertain yet unwilling to disclaim.

icarus62 has it perfectly right. I've had a hard time explaining this to people.

People's desire to classify and make groups as exclusive as possible is truly sad...
