I want to know from all you believers, is it all based on blind faith? If one of you gives me a flawless proof, I will be very happy, but I am doubtful that this will occur.

Any answers not even making the slightest attempt to answer the question will be reported (don't worry, I will be very lenient, only reporting the worst answers [you know the kind I mean])

Here's a little thing about me... If I have evidence to back up science, and people telling me I should blindly believe in god, I'm gonna go with science, whether I like the future it predicts or not, I would rather know the truth than calm my fears in ignorance.

"U can see the proof all around u .
in water , air , land , the whole universe , try to open your eyes .

Science may tell u their chemical composition but not from where all these came ...

and ya one more thing I am an ATHEIST"

Am I the only one here who sees a contradiction?

icarus62, I disagree with you that that proves god cannot exist, but I support and agree with the rest of your arguement.

"yes it,s in the peace that i have in my soul your going to tell me that all in nature and human life is a evolution thing wow are you stupid/"

Yes, I am stupid enough to see how order can arise in a random system, forgive me. I reccomend reading "A New Kind of Science" I forget the author, but it should prove enlightening.

"to many things have to happen just for the sun light to reach the earth if it was off 1 % we would all fry from the heat our moon is in perfect allignment so that our oceans can support life"

In how many TRILLIONS of other planets do you think the conditions were wrong? It is almost inevitable that life will arise on one of the planets, considering how vast the universe it.

"the human brain does more than any super computer could even touch"

That is because the human brain operates in a way completely different that computers. Can you tell me what 42^21 is in under 1 second? Ya, well a computer can.

" yea we evolved from monkeys why is there still monkey"

You have absolutely no understanding of the idea of evolution. Go read a book then ask you stupid questions. I have neither the time nor patience to try to explain it to you.

I suppose I should to support myself though. A brief explanation is that in evolution, species branch off of another, a change occuring in one and appearing in its offspring. Evolution in one animal does not mean it will occur in another, it is a different process for each individual.

"There is a thoery:
God if present should denote infinity.
Infinity equivalent to x/0 = Unknown factor/Nil factor = Unknown/Nil = (System -Known)/Nil = (World - Life)/Nil = Nil/Nil
All things Known and Unknown belong to the reference of a system. This system is our world."

Ya? well I have an equation too...
a=1, b=1
a^2=a^2
b^2=ab

Subtract them...

a^2-b^2=a^2-ab

Divide by (a-b)

a+b=a

Subtract a

b=0

Substitute predefined value for b

1=0

:-) Then just do a bit of multiplication, division, adding and subtracting and any number equals any otehr number! Yay!

That doesn't mean god exists though, all it means is that we tried to divide by zero, and our system of mathematics is undefined there.

Excuse me kepha31, but all of that to me seemed to be a string of statements tied together with nothing being a reason for the connections made. I've heard the interdependance arguements, and all of that stuff, but it just doesn't hold up.

"hey mr. scientist i'm sure u haven't worked out all the science laws all by urself but u believe what some men down the history said ..."

Oh, I just LOVE that name! It's so creative and... well you think of something else it is... I have not worked out all of the laws of science by myself, I think the reason for that may be that nobody has worked out half the laws of science that exist... Funny isn't it? Science declares that there is a possibility it may not be true, it is mostly theories and conjecture. We cannot even prove the existance of the atom. Why do I BELIEVE it exists then? Because the evidence points in it's favor. As for god... Even just considering some major world religion's reputations makes them look doubtful. Combine that with the evidence from the most likely explanation of our universe (from, science), and you have a pretty good reason to be an athiest, in my opinion. Most people though, would choose to remain ignorant for one reason or another...

birth and death are not mere result of physics , chemistry and biology together !!!

i'm sure u understand that a body without spirit is is nothing more than a dead-body ...

well then, the day ur science gives me a proof from where this spirit comes from and where it flies away.. its my promise i'll get u the proof that HE exists..."

I'm almost speechless... It has already been shown how life can emerge by chance from a mere chemical iteraction of elements. Go read a book, maybe "Probability 1: Why there must be intelligent life in the universe" It is not a flawless book, but it should prove enlightening.

Being an athiest, I don't believe in your spirits, and a body without one is therefore the same as one with one (see, its like adding and subtracting 0 to a number :-)

Why would science need to prove the existance of a spirit! Did you think about your question for more than 3 seconds? If anything, science is going to disprove their existance.

The bible is the only proof of God. Is there proof of Buddah? Is there proof of Mohammed? Most of ancient history has been destroyed and/or covered up by sand and dirt and oceans. Maybe we lost what god means in translation. Maybe god was supposed to mean future. Pray to future. Is there any proof that he doesn't exist. If there is no future, is there god? No!

The question of existence or nonexistence is one of those questions that is beyond the scope of our present state of knowledge.

What would be acceptable as a proof?

What if, as our science advances, it becomes evident that an intelligence is behind the design of the universe and it's rules are our science? or our science becomes the God behind it all?

What difference would it make then?

Focus on the questions we can answer.

For example...how to feed everyone, how to get along with our neighbors, cure cancer and other diseases. etc. Let's find those kind of answers first and it won't matter if God does or does not exist.

Do you think the entire universe with all its amazing order, variety and complexity could just exist fully formed with no origin whatsoever? I think it would be ridiculous to believe that. By the same token it's even more ridiculous to suppose that something infinitely *more* amazing - an intelligent entity capable of designing and creating an entire universe - could just exist fully formed with no origin whatsoever.

Science shows that order and variety and complexity arise spontaneously from disorder and chaos by the action of unthinking natural processes - e.g. cosmology and evolution. Intelligence is a product of that process. It's clearly absurd to suggest that intelligence could exist before there was a universe for it to arise in.

Hence a god cannot possibly exist.

Science tells us what is observable about the world around us. It gives us facts. Science can be dangerous, such as nuclear bombs. Religion keeps science from becoming montrous, and harming human beings.

Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.... We need each other to be what we must be, what we are called to be."

Blind faith depends on sentimentalism, conjecture, emotionalism, and prejudice. Blind faith is NOT the faith of the Gospel message.

True faith does not shrink from, or fear, the closest scientific investigation, because true faith appeals to REASON. Funnymentalists and ignorant ministers have given true faith a bad rap.

The existence of God cannot be proven with science, although science itself offers arguments in favor of God's existence. To use science to disprove God is to take science into an area it does not belong. It no longer is science.

Here are 5 philosophical arguments for the existence of God. They are summaries, and not intended for debate.

I had the same qualms several years ago. It came down to this, if God was real, I wanted to know, but I didn't want to feel like I'd been brainwashed.

So, I looked outside one evening and asked, "Uh, ok, God, if you're really there, and if you're really all they say you are, you can prove it to me by yourself, without any people. So, if you're there, show me...and if this Jesus person is someone I should believe in, well show me that, too. By yourself."

Over the course of the summer of 1979, no one talked to me about GOd, unless I initiated the question. And the one question I asked of someone, was the one you are asking now. That person told me, no it was not blind faith, but that she had actual relationship with the living God.

There isnot space to tell you all that happened that summer. The many unique coincidences and such...nor would I expect you to be moved by such recollections.

If you seriously want to know whether He exists or not, ask Him. Ask expecting him to prove himself real to you. If you're not convinced, you've wasted maybe 5 minutes of your time...but if He convinces you, it could change your life. In a good way. :-)

There are two question minutes apart on the forum that ask the same question so I guess it needs to be answered again. God hasn't asked man to have blind faith. He has given us evidence, strong evidence. It is then a matter of whether or not you will except that evidence. One of the best is found in Psalms 22:12-18
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
I have been told many times that Jesus manipulated His life to make it appear that He was the fulfillment of many Bible prophecies. This one would have been hard to self fulfill. Hanging there on the cross in agony I don't think anyone would say "Guys don't tear that coat shoot dice for it" Even this is not proof, but it is a reason for faith..
