I was brutally honest with a guy years ago. He kept asking me out, I kept saying no, he kept saying "why"...

... So I got frustrated and laid it on him - without thinking, I spontaneously said "becuase you have the personality of a cardboard box!"

I felt so badly afterwards, and I heard from friends that he was really hurt.

My sister also told me once that she broke up with someone because she didn't like the way he kissed. She didn't tell him, but someone else... it got back to him, and he was really hurt. This was a shame, because he was a nice guy!

What did I learn out of these two episodes? Don't be honest if being truthful would hurt the person. A simple "I'm just not attracted to you, I don't know why" or even "you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" does the trick, and doesn't hurt anyone!

It is difficult but I have been honest with two people who told me they loved me and I had to tell them I wasn't in love with them and it wasn't going to work. I did it as nicely as possible and tried as best I could to explain what wasn't working/missing for me. One remains a good friend, the other is long gone. It was difficult, but I feel better for being honest.

If you tell someone you are just not attracted to them, it will probably hurt their feelings, and they will want to know why, which could hurt their feelings even more.

I suggest telling them that you have a lot going on in your life right now, and you are trying to focus all of your attention on your career/school/project/other, and you are just not that interested in dating anyone right now.

I think the former is the best and most cultured course to follow in such delicate situations. but also do not forget to appreciate their guts to being honest with u.

I dont proclaim myself to b a perfect gentleman but i take care to apprise people of their traits that i like/dislike in them. it works with me always........u just hav to know the right way to communicate with such people.!

try it and let me know

If you practice "not doing to others that you would not like done to you", then you certainly would not blow them off. You don't necessarily have to tell them why you are not attracted to them, but can be nice (but firm) in letting them know no thanks. If they persist, ask them to respect your wishes. If they continue to persist, ignore them.

You should always be honest with someone. If you don't tell this person you're not interested, they will just keep trying harder to be with you.

it's probably better to explain than just to go cold on them - maybe it's a problem that they can fix
