The 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Airborne) (1st SFOD-D (A)), commonly known as Delta within the U.S. Army or as Delta Force by the general public (officially recognized by the Pentagon as the Combat Applications Group), is a Special Operations Force (SOF) and an element of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

The force's main task is Counter-Terrorism, although it is extremely versatile. Delta Force is believed to conduct missions similar to those regularly attributed to the British Special Air Service (SAS), after which it was modelled.

A superb highly motivated disciplined force of men (not forgetting its multi support units e.g.pilots, signals, medics, others and not forgetting the ladies) who combined together are an elite special forces unit who serve under the most extreme conditions and quietly go about there business. Modelled on similar units of other Nations yes, but not withstanding its own peculiar rules and conduct which it religiously adheres to and imposes within it's ranks in the event of conduct deemed inappropriate.
I've been associated with them - not one of them - I didn't quite make the grade - I wasn't good enough!
Made it as Chopper pilot though, took em in - took em out! Got our butts shot off a couple of times / but nothing compared to what those men accomplished, did or took!
