If you are talking literally about a specific task, a soldier is finished when properly relieved of his duties by another soldier or directed to stop by a proper authority.

Soldier's job is more in the nature of "duty". Even after victory, when a nation rejoices, he mourns for his deceased brethren; and his duty ( job) to protect his country ...just begins.

His job is never finished.
