In my opinion, Frank Sinatra's "My Way" is by far the best ever. Does anyone agree or disagree? Either way, why?

It is almost impossible for there to be "a best ever song". Even though i enjoy more of a rock sort of thing, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohan is an amazing song. I have heard lots of great renditions of it. I deal in "songs of the week". This week it is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by George Harrison. And beiterspace! Don't dis the Beatles! Regardless of what you thought of their beliefs, or even their music, the did create a cultural revolution. And someone, whoever, getting murdered is never good.

In my opinion, "Long Distance Runaround" by YES. Amazing performance.

I love how some people are saying awful pop songs by people like shakira or rhiannon, which people wont even remember in a year are the best songs ever made. I think those people need to turn off the radio and listen to some real music.

I pity them.

I guess it depends on the style of music you like.

Jazz "At Last" Ella Fitzgerald

R&B "Come Rain or Come Shine" Ray Charles

Rock "All Fired Up" Pat Benatar
"I'm Alive" Celine Dion

Opera "Ava Maria" Sarah Brightman

Country "Breathe" Faith Hill

Classic "American Pie" Don McLean

New Age "Duet Album" Kenny G

Love "Your Song" Josh Groban

Obviously it's all down to a matter of personal taste. While it's not my all time favorite song, Cole Porter's "Night & Day" by virtue of the fact that it's been covered by so many people must be in with a shot.

''My Way" is a very good song but much better by a long way for song and for lyrics is Abba's (can't remember the name at the moment) - can someone remind me - "When I was young - I could run long before I could talk".... could anyone give me the rest of the lyrics - I've got this wrong anyway - but it is the most beautiful song ever - and Agnetha is gorgeous even now - shame she has had such a sh*t life ! And all that money too ! This would be my opinion for what it's worth - but definitely not the Beetles - bunch of do-gooders - I'm glad John Lennon was murdered - can't stand do-gooders or do-gooding music!

A difficult question to answer. Depending on your mood at the time but my top 5 would probably be in no paticular order:

1.Love will tear us apart --- Joy Division
2.Bad for good --- Jim Stienman
3.I am the ressurection --- The Stone Roses
4.Insanity --- Oceanic
5.Stay --- Shakespears Sister

But ask me tommorow and it may be completly diffrent.

It certainly is a classic but it's very hard to pick a 'best ever'.
Stairway To Heaven? Imagine? Sympathy For The Devil?

Personally, my favourite song is 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' but wouldn't expect many to agree. Each to their own I guess

'my way' is a song which effortlessly combines cliché expression, emotional smugness and an entrancingly jejune melody without so much as a nod in the direction of musicality.

if your notion of heaven is elevator music it will indeed seem the nonpareil of composition to you.

gustav mahler's 'ich bin der welt abhanden gekommen' matches an enormous depth of feeling with the kind of melody which both seems wholly inevitable and never loses its ability to surprise.

you wouldn't get it.

yes it's good... but, on a personal not.... Living years by Mike and the Mechanics has great Lyrics, but could do with a re-arrangement... if only Eva Cassidy was alive to do another version of it.... still strong words though.

I think you can't rate any song as "Best ever". It is very subjective. I like "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Colins. It has nice lyrics and is a very meaningful song.
