In the beginning, God told Adam to go nuts and eat all the fruit except the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. He said "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die."

So then fast forward, Eve was created and she's hanging out by the tree, talking to the serpent (Satan) and Satan says: "You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

So what happened? They ate the fruit and died? NO. The Bible says they ate the fruit and suddenly their eyes were opened, they knew that they were naked, they knew good and evil that was previously hidden from them and they lived on for hundreds of years.

But how was Satan wrong and God proven true? Wasn't it the other way around? Satan wins this one in my book.

I don't know. I personally think I'd rather live a hundred years aware of good and evil. 100 years being conscience. Then die.

Rather than living an eternity of just being an animal.

Answer me this though. If Adam and Eve didn't know of good and evil. Of right and wrong.

How could god expect them not to eat the apple? How could expect them to understand why his moral laws had any bearing.

They didn't know right or wrong, so how would they know it was right or wrong to eat the apple?

wicked jester - God put the tree where they could get at it because of free will. If Adam and Eve were to truly have free will, they had to actually have a choice. They had to be able to choose between following God and messing up. It's no good telling someone they get to choose between two dishes and then only providing one. If there was no tree and no commandment (and it was such an easy, simple one!) then Man's free will would just be an illusion because there'd be nothing for him to disobey.

Also, Adam and Eve DID die. Death also refers to separation from God, or spiritual death. When Man was cast out from the Garden he no longer had direct access to God until Jesus came along, and I believe Adam and Eve did leave the Garden (i.e. die) on the day they ate the fruit. And that day marked the beginning of their physical death.

Satan, affectionately known as Stan by some answerers on this page, is a mythical figure just like God, also affectionately known as "Dog spelt backwards". Which reminds me the dyslexic devil worshipper sold his soul to SANTA!
BTW: the Snake in Genesis is the representation of the ancient world religion which predates Adam and Eve, in which the Snake was the supreme God. This story is an attempt to discredit a previous religion and warn people that acquiring too much knowledge is not good for human development (as they thought because the snake religion was the enemy of the Hebrews and followers of this religion had enslaved them.) The Kundalini Snake or Rainbow Snake is still present in Native Australian Belief and the feathered serpent and the snake eating its own tail features in many cultures throughout the world.

AND THE IDEA THAT WE ARE ALL DESCENDED FROM ONE COUPLE IS COMPLETELY PREPOSTEROUS!

i like your question and the way you explain it.

maybe god meant that they as they knew themselves would die. what satan says is like his interpretation and is literally true word for word if that's really how it went down. It was probably pretty wrong to think that Eden was ever a pure place and that Adam and Eve would live a long life knowing and feeling nothing. I think god let satan get in that garden and wanted to see what his little god-like clay and rib creations would do when he gave them a 50/50 choice. God was all like "don't do it" and they were all like "im bored" and they failed the test of listening to what they were told. Satan told them the truth, but God did too. Adam and Eve DID die and the new free willed versions were born, all of mankind cast from the garden began with free will.

And that's just the beginning!

You found a MAJOR malfunction in the first chapter of the Fairy Tale Bible and the rest of it is just as bad.

Why would anyone want to join a group that tells them they are inherently evil? Are you inherently evil? Do you need God to tell you right from wrong? From the way Christians hate everybody except their friends at church I would say God is a failure.

I know he is because Satan/Lucifer was his favorite angel in heaven and he revolted against God and was also thrown out of heaven. Why do all of God's creations revolt against him...he must be a real dick.

That was always the thing that bothered me in the Bible. It just seems like God wants to keep us as pets or something that aren't allowed to find out about anything and not have an own opinion. Maybe that's just what Christians want though. If Satan is the way he's described in that passage then fu** let's go to hell and have fun.

The action (of eating) created an attachment to the world and a chasm with the godhead. This was Satan's job. This took away from them the "everlasting life" and gave birth to worldly senses.

Only "salvation" can take men back to their original state.

Your last statement "Satan wins this one in my book." proves this fact.

The word Satan is figurative. The term "Conciousness" is used to describe the earthly qualities. In God's plane - there is no duality - so they say - no sense of self - good or bad - no sense of discrimination etc

Of course when God says in Bible "you will die" it means not right away but after 900+ years.

There are many other places in Bible where God has lost the battles with Satan.

God even lost a battle from a guy who has running scared of his own brother in Bible.

Adam and Eve lost their innocents and found that they knew right from wrong. But then again why would he put the tree of life where they could get to it in the first place. Just the first little joke on man.

VERY WELL SAID! This first story when I asked myself the same questioned ruined the Bible as fact and actually made me worry about how competant God is. Truth is God lied to Adam and Eve and the Devil told the Truth.
