Actually, the veil is technically what represents virginity, not the color of the dress. Not that the tradition is exactly followed these days!

We all know that symbolism and reality are rarely related to one another. If you want a white dress, then wear a white dress. Anyone who has the notion that this must be accessorized by an intact hymen is a person with way too much interest in the personal lives of others, and should get a life of their own. However, if you prefer ivory, cream, pale pink (if you are very young), or whatever, there is no "rule" you are compelled to follow.

Traditionally, white wedding dresses have meant virginal brides, but these days I think most brides wear white. Or at least almost-white. If you don't want to wear white, a lot of wedding dresses come in cream, shades of tan or ivory colors, pale pink, pale blue. Or you could just buy a nice dress in your favorite color.

A white wedding dress is supposed to mean purity. You do not have to wear white as a bride at all. I am getting married in November and since this is not my first wedding, I am wearing blue. There is a website that lists a poem with all the colors of a wedding dress and what they mean. My advice would be: pick the color that YOU want to be married in. Do something different. Your guests will be amazed that you took a chance and left tradition behind!
“Married in white, you will have chosen all right. Married in grey , you will go far away. Married in black, you will wish yourself back. Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead. Married in blue, you will always be true. Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl. Married in green, ashamed to be seen, Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow. Married in brown, you’ll live out of town. Married in pink, your spirits will sink.”

Just wear a nice white dress, you do not need to make a statement on your wedding day

wrong. A white wedding dress means that you are getting married for the first time, it does not matter whether you are a virgin or not.

A white wedding dress mean you have a pure Heart
Now here's a Tiwst:
As with many other things in life, there is much folklore and legend surrounding the various other colours that brides have been known to wed in. One old rhyme seems to sum up these notions:
Married in white, you have chosen all right.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen.
Married in red, you will wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in yellow, ashamed of your fellow.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink

Many wedding dresses in the shops are ivory now (not white), but red is a great colour for dresses if you want something different!

Listen, I know plenty of folks who had children, who got married in white with the veil over their face -- and couples who had been together for many years who did the same thing.
I chose to wear a champagned colored gown because I loved how it looked next to the bridal party color scheme.
