anxiety - this is called bruxism. I've been doing this all my life. As a result, my front teeth have worn down and my tongue had bite marks in the side. I promise I'm not trying to hurt myself, I'm trying to protect myself, psychologically. Some medicines can help. I take an anticonvulsive that used to help, but now I'm back to clenching. My masseter (cheek) muscles are really sore. They told me if I don't stop, they'll give me a shot, but I promise it's nothing that I do intentionally.

Nice question! My mum always grtting her teeth sinnce i was young and i still remember sometimes i was so irritated that i shouted at her at night.
Now think back, i did a very wrong thing. People grit teeth when sleeping coz they are tired and mentally stress, that's why they got this kind of behavior. I should not do such a thing to her..

you grit your teeth or grind your molars while sleeping because you have anxiety and stress in your life. even without telling my dentist he figured it out by looking at my teeth. within the past week i've had a hard time closing my jaw when i yawn because it would temporarily lock up. the dentist will make this strong plastic thing to place in your mouth while you sleep to prevent you from damaging your teeth. some people grind their teeth while awake when their experiencing a stressful situation.

Stress is usually a big factor...they can stop by getting night guards...if not sometimes people can grind their teeth down to nothing. Sometimes people have dreams that cause them to grind their teeth.

growing up we didnt have much money so i had to share my room (well technically her room) with my mom. she used to snore, moan and grind her teeth..the first time i heard her grind them it freaked me out i was about 12yrs..so any ways i asked her why she grinds she saids its her nerves and she worries herself to sleep. maybe thats right cause she got a better job to where she had enought to move us into a house and we all had our own rooms...i can remeber walking by her room or sitting in there and watching tv while she asleep and she didnt do it anymore....but then again it could be different for everyone!
