In my husband's former marriage (if that's what it was), they practiced a swinging lifestyle. She and he both had other sexual partners and she was homosexual. This doesnt happen in our marriage, it's something he has asked God's forgiveness for and doesn't even desire anymore. My question is, if marrying a divorced person is adultery according to the bible, are we committing adultery to have remarried, when their relationship was wicked and an abomination in God's eyes?

If you were Catholic, the Church would investigate the first marriage and would probably issue a declaration of nullity (this is sometimes incorrectly called annulment).

The declaration of nullity would say that your husband and his ex-wife were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present.

Therefore they were never truly married and you are not committing adultery.

With love in Christ.

I think it'd be a better idea to consult a Christian leader rather than people on Yahoo. This is something that deserves thought, attention, and sensitivity--and while you may get such an answer on here, it's unlikely. And still--there is really no substitute for wise Christian counsel from one who has studied, preached, and practiced what is in the Bible.

well, it depend...If the previous relationship was INFACT a marraige, then yes, He is considered a divorcee in God's eyes and your current marraige is questionable...however, given that 'open-marraiges' are not recoginised in christianity, if his previous relationship was based on sexual immorality and there was not God-sanctified marraige between them (before or during their fornicate ways) then there is no marraige to be recognised in God's eyes.

If he sought God's forgiveness with a true repentant heart, then I am sure God will grant him the grace of restoring his purity back and sanctifying your current marraige before His graceful and loving eyes.

God bless you and pray for me.

All sins are forgivable, and no one sin is greater than any other... except one, and that one is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit!
So, all it takes is to repent and ask for forgiveness and it's wiped away in the eyes of the Lord!
Bless You!

I don't think so. There was sexual immorality, and he has since been forgiven.
