I recently entered Islam but i am having a big problem with interpretation, espesially since i am so young. I know the basics but i wan't to learn more. This is becoming difficult as I hear different INTERPRETATIONS of the same verse etc... When i try to interpret it myself It turns out i was completely wrong or nearly right. Also with the Hadiths, some say that some cannot be verified therefore it shouldn't be followed. I know that Islam is the truth It is just the interpretation that is bothering me. I seem to think like the "minority" (if you get what i'm saying) and i don't want to get the wrong idea or think wrongly.

What can i do?

I came out of Islam because of the horrific actions and requirements of the faith.

Islam is NOT the way to find peach with God - not at all. I have now found this but will not propogate my faith here otherwise this posting will be taken wrong.

Run while you can.

You have to be simple and loving. Interpretations are always different because they express their writers' point of view. Logic and reason are very important to reach your own interpretation. Don't let anybody whosoever they are, dominates your thinking. If you cannot think about certain question or discuss it with different people, how can you accept their answers inscrutinizingly and how can your mind accept illogical answers?
Religions, any religion, depend on books in their existence and forming their principles. Words can be interpreted to one meaning and its opposite at the same time. So if you asked someone, he/she will give an interpretation and if you asked someone else he/she may give you the opposite, according to their modes and attitudes towards the situation. Besides, the verses that came down after El hijjera "immigration of Mohammed (pbuh) to Madinah", are apparently and completely disintegrated with those that descended before El Hijjera. This apparent conflict between these temporarily different sequences of verses may be misinterpreted by the enemies of Islam. So, sister believer, you need to free your mind first. Then follow the logic when you try to understand any religion. Don't forget that faith and God can never be against or opposed to logic, reason or mind. Wish you good luck in your new conversion.

There are many different interpretations for Quran, but most of them are very alike. You'd better follow the context of the verse without trying to twist its interpretation. As for the Hdith, the problem is very serious because many hadith are proved WRONG and others were just lies...etc. However, Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhary are the two books that are widely accepted by most Muslims.

My dear sister ASA. As far as your question goes understand one thing before accepting anything and that is the understanding of what you intend adopting. The word 'Islam' means peace and submission and the word 'Muslim' means Total Submitter; In this case of Islam total submission to the Command of Allah which is recorded in the Al-Quran. After having understood this I will like to invite your attention to the following few verses: 49:15, 8:2-4, 24:51-52, and 21:10. In 21:10 please note that you will have to find yourself in the Quran command for you and that you can only do if you can see where you stand according to Al-Quran. If you go into the interpretations and history (which is usually concocted in order to boost ones sect) you will then tend to lead into controversies from which you will never be able to come out and will never understand the Islam that you have accepted. As for my friend Shado I can only say that if ever you claim to be a 'Muslim' I am sure you have to date not known even the meaning of the word (a classic example for all to see of living in illusions and delusions about being a self proclaimed Muslim) read 4:60-63.

Assalamualaikum, and congrats to you, may Allah keeps you and always guide you on the right path. About intepretation, dont interpret yourself, we cannot do that due to our limited knowledge and also, we might intepret based on wht will favor us, so get some books or ask a scholar. I know this website islamicity.com, which is great. As a muslim, believe in the prophet is one of the foundation too, so yes we have to follow hadith, and there's a lot of books written by scholars which interpret hadith. And of all major 6 scholars, they all in interpret the basic faith the same, only when it comes o the small "branches" that they had different views.

Sister, be very careful and just because someone has been Muslim all of his life doesn't makes him the scholar of Islam. Contact someone who teaches Quran or an Imam.

About the Hadiths, most authentic Hadiths can be found in Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari.

As a Muslim you have been told to question your faith and you should and that is how you get more knowledge about Islam.

As Salamu 'alaikum:

There's only one thing to do: Find a good teacher. A Shaikh. One who has studied Islam, The Qur'an, the Hadith and the pious scholars and has a proven track record.

Here is a website to my Shaikh. I hope and Pray Allah will guide you on the straight path.

p.s. don't listen to negative advice - think positive. Always pray to Allah for guidance before doing anything and be patient. God may test you to help strengthen your faith. Faith is the key to clear understanding.

I (n other Moslem friends of mine) might help you whenever you're troubled with "Interpretation"; First thing first, it's not "interpretation" you should look for; it's the essence of every verse in the Quran; each presents contexts and carries its implementation accordingly. There are Meddina and Mecca verses (in relation to where each Surah was revelated) and each has their purposes (behind the scene of what happened during the revelation). U can always ask me and other Moslems for help.
