No, the Halo armor is based on concepts in body armor that have been floating around for decades. Some (I stress, *some*) of those features are approaching the point at which they can be practically applied, others are still a long way off or too [pick one: expensive, unwieldy, unreliable] to be practical at this time.
Keep your eyes peeled, though; who would have figured 10 years ago that US troops would be scouting with robots...

Might actually have something to do with the guys at Nightmare Armor. That suit actually looks feasible if you used something lightweight, maybe carbon fiber, back up with kevlar with a Lexan face shield. If it's fully enclosed you might even be able to get some air conditioning in it and maybe water reclamation. That'd solve the problem of not being able to wear body armor in 120 degree weather.
*Edit* Doesn't have to be light if it's powered. DARPA's been working on powered armor exoskeletons for decades. Our taxpayer dollars BETTER have paid off in all that time.

ROFL, no im pretty sure the millitary is going for a Avanced War Fighter style if youve played ghost recon youll know what im talking about. The millitary is trying to go for lighter gear and im sure the halo gear would be to heavy to fight in. How do i know the army is going for a computeristic fighting experince? well the army has made guns capable of shooting around corners without being in risk of fire, and guns that can only be used by the soilder due to fingerprinting etc...
So youre freind is probably lieing.

holy hell i hope so... and if they do, i want a set...
i don't have any information in the way of actual military work, but there's a site where you can buy a good looking replica of the MJOLNIR Mark VI at http://briarsarmor.com/halo.htm - perhaps they're secretly working for the military?? who knows...
