I'm a huge fan of Alton Brown's show "good eats" on FoodNetwork...he did a show on doughnuts recently. Query that in their search, and look for altons recipes.

find a recipe for white bread, add 1/2 tsp of each cinnamon and nutmeg, and an extra half cup of sugar, and double the yeast so it raises fluffier Then after it is raised , punch down, cut into the desired shapes and raise again then deep fry. It tastes almost as good as crispy creme, but is so much better because your grease will be hotter, so there won't be as much actually in the doughnut.
