Would YOU eat canned dog food? Well, I don't think the dove will like it either. Try bird food. Dog's eat dog food and birds eat birds food. And it's bad for birds to eat alot of meat!
Oh and don't forget the water!! They need clean water everyday!!

NO
Doves are seed eating birds, they eat parakeet seed, but you MUST offer them grit in a separate bowel so they can digest the seed, in addition to the seed, and grit, supply fesh fruit and veggies. And millet spray as a treat
All bird experts reccomend this diet, and pet stores feed their doves in the same manner.
I've raised doves and pigeons on this diet and their colors are brighter and they are happier.
I hope this helps

That would be a really bad move, unless you've been working on some wild, Island of Dr. Moreau-type experiments to turn doves into vicious carnivores.
Wouldn't that just put a damper on dove releases at weddings?

I think doves eat grain, not meat. It could upset its stomach. Research dove diets on the net.
I just rescued a baby bird and he is living on DRY catfood moistened with water, but he is an insectivore so the protein is doing him good. I know doves like bread, cooked rice, and seeds - why not stick to that?
Cheers.

Hey if your bird likes it, why not! Just make sure you don't give it to much. My parakeet (peanuts) loved cherry kool-aid,to a point that he would have a red beak. And look out if you have mashed potatoes on your plate. He would spot those, and down he would come, and land right in them. Then he would wiggle around in them (he loved it !) He was so funny I thought of taking him to HOLLYWOOD! This bird said and did everything, I'm not kidding. 'Peanuts' passed away a few years ago and I miss him so much. He was my buddy, my pal, and my best friend. So I just had to share my story to the world. Thank-you! P.S. I once had a turtle that ate Skippy's can dog food.(he loved it)
