Welcome to Windsor! I'm sure you will find many fun and interesting things to do here.
Since you are an international student it is likely that you will not be driving while you are here. That's ok! We have an pretty good transit system that can get you to most places you will need to go. Even Detroit is just a bus ride away.
If you are in to going to clubs and bars you will have no problem finding someplace to suit your style. Shopping is decent in Windsor, but there are not many retail stores downtown and you will have to go for a bit of a ride to find what you're looking for. Dinning in Windsor is a great experience and you can find food of any culture. There are often festivals at the riverfront celebrating anything from summer to the areas uniquely diverse population.
Detroit can offer a good time once in a while(North American International Auto Show, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, The Dream Cruise on Woodward Blvd, concerts, and sports in each major category)...though I wouldn't suggest traveling to Detroit alone or often.
Toronto is a 4 hour bus ride away and round-trip tickets can be purchased for around $100. It's a good place to spend a weekend to do something different.
Windsor has a beautiful riverfront that stretches for many Km with parkland, beaches(to the far east), and an outdoor sculpture garden.
Other features of the city include: Windsor Casino, Windsor Raceway, The Art Gallery of Windsor, Ojibway Nature Reserve.
If you need more detailed information please feel free to let me know.

p.s. There's no skiing in Windsor...if it weren't for all the buildings and trees you could probably watch your dog run away for a week cause it's so flat here....also to warm here.

U Windsor is where I went to school. There's lots of stuff to do there as a student.
You can goto Detroit and watch Pistons Basketball, or Red Wings Hockey. You can make the 30 mile drive to Ann Arbour to watch University of Michigan Football games at the Big House!
In Windsor you can goto Colassanti's Garden in the fall for fruit and vegetable picking and hay rides. There is a lot of shopping in Windsor - Devoshire Mall, Outlet Mall, and Shopping on Ouellete Street. You can head to the river front for a jog and for the scenary. The Windsor Symphony Orchestra performs around 50 times a year and they have student prices.
The University of Windsor has a music series called Soundsation, and the drama department puts on about 8 productions a year. You can also go party at all the clubs. Great places to party but be aware, lots of Americans come up because the drinking age is only 19 in Ontario and 21 in Michigan.
In January, you can goto Cobo Center in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show. You can drive to Toronto for a weekend and hang out there, or even drive down to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio which is about 4 hours away from Windsor. You'll find lots to do there, but I'm sure you'll spend a lot of time studying as well.

i'd flow to Italy, that's a compact position with a range of of heritage. Canada is a very diverse position as you flow by the land, and also you'll see a lot less on an substitute than in Europe. BTW, Canada isn't all like Minnesota.
