It is in your history folder. If you are using Internet Explorer and don't have a History tab on your top bar, go to View, then Explorer Bar, then History. It will show where you've been, and you can delete what you don't want other people to see, or else find the site you wish you could remember.
Another thing that happens is that cookies get stored in your Temporary Internet Files folder. Do a search for this folder if you want to delete your cookies. OR, you can go to Tools, then Internet Options, then General, and hit Delete Cookies.

So far all the answers I have seen suggest that you delete the contents of the history folder. While this does make the contents not visable anymore to the windows user, it does not eliminate the information from the computer completely. any information deleted from the hard drive can be restored by someone who knows how to do it. The department of defence has a procedure for declasifying a computer hard drive that is probably the only method you might find recorded that will eliminate information from a hard drive to the point where it is irretrivable. Part of the process is writing over the information many times with other information. For more information consult the topic Computer Forensics.

If you're using IE, to clear the history of internet, go to "tools>internet options> clear history - delete files - delete cookies" then go to the "contents" tab & select "clear forms - clear passwords", I have no idea about the history of the PC itself... .
