Hello people... I have a JVC car audio system (KD-SV3104) and I want to decide which speakers to buy.. I posted a question yesterday also and after i received some answers, i went to town and looked into some speakers.. Some say that 4-way or 5-way speakers have less bass than 3-way speakers regardless of the number of watts mentioned on the box. I have a choice of going for a 3-way 280 watt JVC speakers or 380 watt 4-way Pioneer or Kenwood or 480 watt 5-way Pioneer..They all are oval shaped. I think the 3-way JVC fits my budget well though.. Is 280 a good power? My player is 50 into 4.. I want some bass and the sound quality not to blast my windows.. I'm still on the fence.. Which speakers to buy ( Pioneer, Kenwood or JVC) and which power (watt) range to go for.. I'd like to have JVC speakers with my JVC player but i don't know about the sound quality and durability of JVC and Kenwood speakers.. What should i do? Ryan, what do you think is better? Everybody else is invited to answer.

as long as you meet or exceed the wattage rating on your stereo you'll be okay...same goes for speakers and amps (if you're not 'trick' wiring the amp). As for bass response, I'd have to say that a good, heavy paper cone produces great bass response. Other than that...look at the specs on the speakers you are looking at..look for the frequency response. the lower the frequency (Hz) the lower the bass responses you can get, not withstanding the ability of your stereo. Those 5-way Pioneers look pretty good from here (LOL)....they have a pretty high wattage rating (maybe later you'd like to get an amp) and 5-way (lows, mids, highs and..i guess..whatever is in between) may sound well. also, sometimes one only really pays for the name brand. i have some old Radio Shack speakers that don't look great, but they sound great, (not withstanding the ability of my head unit {stereo}) if you'd like more information...click my pic and contact me.

The bass depends on the material used for the woofer rubber is the best, but the cheaper ones come with foam and cloth. Cloth has the higest durability and life. Pioneer is no tknown for its speakers so don;t go for pioneer unless its a very high end pioneer.

The 4 way and 5 way provide you better sound and receptions and flexibity too but make sure you have a head unit which supports all the advanced settings otherwise the sound won't sound as good as if you just use a 3 way. I have a 50*4 pineer 3800, I went for kenwood speaker for my front door speakers, see link http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sZRe6gybshN/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=52000&I=113KFC1660

yeah, you should go with the 3 way jvc speakers. but you have to look for the RMS wattage instead of the advertised wattage. your receiver is 50 x 4 but the rms is more like 20 x 4 RMS, and the speakers handling is about 50 watts rms. also the 6x9's (the ovals) will give you the best bass response; if you really want more bass response but not blast your windows you should get an 8" bazooka bass tube. visit crutchfield .com they have great info and a variety of products.

I have had the 5 way pioneers for 3 years with anywhere from 1 12'sub running 500 wats to 3 12" subs running 3000 watts and i have never needed anymore power than the 22 watts rms 50 max that my head unit puts out and the play clean crisp highs that still get through the bass. I didnt buy the speakers with the intent of playing bass on them because my radio filters that out cause of the subs i dont need bass takeing power from them if your lookin for 6x9's that play astounding bass dont get these if your lookin for 6x9s that give you excellent sound imageing you definatly want these
