Note: I don't really like red meat. I've become *somewhat* of a vegetarian as of late. Though I love chicken! Also, can someone please tell me ir 45% iron is a good thing? I'm eating a bowl of Cheerios now that I saw has 45% iron.

Two things that I know contain a lot of iron are:
1. Pasta it is fortified with iron.
2. Wieners and bologny, obvious reasons, contain a lot of iron.
And yes oatmeal and raisins contain a lot of iron.
The important thing to remember when eating for iron is that you eat a variety of different sources because every person absorbs iron differently, and there isn't a lot of ways of knowing which type of iron is your usable iron, and it is really complicated because some people say that you have to have two different kinds of iron and they work together or something.
>>If you take iron pills take them with orange juice it helps your body absorb the iron.

I agree with some of the other answerers. Usually meat is a prime source of iron. However, if you are like me and don't eat much meat, it can be a source of problem.

There are some vegetables and fruits that contain iron, like spinach, raisins, plums, -- just about any green leafy vegetable (but not lettuce). Many foods are also fortified with iron as well. Cream of wheat, for instance, is one of those. You'll have to become a label reader to identify which foods are good sources.

One thing to improve iron absorption is to take it with vitamin C. Never take iron with calcium, as calcium blocks the absorption of iron.

If you are finding it difficult to get iron in your diet, you may want to take a multi-vitamin with iron (Centrum with Minerals works for me).

avocados, dark greens, beans, cheakpeas, some cereals do contain a nice amount of iron, but you have to look on the box. It also helps to take a multivitamin
