I use a bristle brush, detangle comb, rubber shedding brush, I trim his bum with a razor comb to keep messes at a minimum. I do this once a week and he looks great and like to be brushed. my little guy is a medium hair, but with my short hair cats i just use the rubber shedding comb. plus i trim their nails at the same time.

Short haired cats do not need as much time spent on their coats as the long haired varieties. You may only need to comb the cat thoroughly once a week. That said it may be better to spend a few minutes daily grooming your cat, than making it an issue once weekly. For shorthaired cats use a short toothed comb or a rubber brush to remove the dead hairs. Some of these short haired cats have delicate coats and skin so be careful when using combs and brushes that you are not damaging the cat in any way.

Before you actually start using a brush or comb on your cat, use your fingers to loosen the dead hairs, by going through the coat in the opposite way to the hair growth. Just like a massage. This helps to stimulate the natural oils in the skin that help to give a nice, healthy shine to the coat. After doing this then you can use the grooming equipment best suited for your cats' coat type.

If your cat is healthy it should groom itself. If your worried about hair during shedding season there is a rubber type glove with little bumps and the cat should enjoy this, you sit with a old grocery bag and pat the cat taking excess fur out and put it in the bag you will be surprised as to how much you get each time but keep it up. If you just want cuddle time, find a spot where you don't mind sitting for a long time grab a book and get comfy, invite your cat up for a snuggle chances are you both will enjoy this time.

All cats should be brushed often. It keeps their fur shiny and clean and it's good for their skin. I find it is best to first use a flea comb and make sure to remove any fleas or dirt that may be in the undercoat, then I use a good brush to remove any loose hairs. Brushing your cat feels great to them and is beneficial to helping reduce hairballs.
