When people claim these things, or insanity (perhaps the same thing), they are just trying to escape consequences.

People do not get possessed by demons, devils, spirits, or the like. Odds are 0.00%. It cannot happen to anyone.

People can be possessed by demons. However the odds are entirely based on how that person conducts themselves. People who are extremely open to Occult teachings and delve into demonology are more likely to become possessed. This comes from inexperience or foolish ritualists. However this can happen to anyone, but the likelyhood of someone who does not practice an occult art is practically zero.

Something to note is that I am an Occultist. Rather then take the opinion of someone who has no idea about the world of demons consider that I have some experience in such strange things. Demons are very real and have great power to the people who open themselves up to the occult. When "spirits" are summoned or invoked in a witchcraft ritual, they will come and possess the person who is inviting them in. Black magic, the occult, witchcraft and the likes is all about demonic activity! That is why you have to be so careful when you start entertaining the idea of dabbling in such things. The bible talks quite openly about demons and there place in this world. They are basically the "fallen angels" that were cast down from heaven with Satan in the beginning. The bible says that they will take there place in hell and Satan will be cast into a bottomless pit! Just as everyone has a guardian angel, given to us for divine protection, Satan has assigned demons to each one of us - because He knows his destination and is determined to take as many people down with him before his day of reckoning. Demon possession is more common than people realise - and, as I said before, they are powerful and able to do many supernatural feats. The only thing that drives them out (according to the bible) is THE NAME & THE BLOOD OF JESUS! Remember, they have been around for thousands of years and know too well our human weaknesses - so, they are worthy opponents! The Devil comes to steal, kill and destroy the bible says - and demons are his henchmen! Be careful.

I have heard about it happening to people. There are accounts of it in the New Testament part of the Bible. Jesus healed many people with unclean spirits. Unclean spirits is another word for demon possession. Some people become possesed when they dabble in evil activity , and when they reject Jesus Christ and the belief of John 3 : 16.
