In my state, that's when the bars close, so I imagine they're pretty busy.

I am always so amazed at the idiots that write some of these answers. At least with this question, there are more factual responses than not.
Jill H wins my Idiot of the Day award.
Okay, Jill, just how many 911 operators do you think are on duty at any given time, much less during busy times of the day?
They have to triage every call that comes in. Even if YOU think it's an emergency, it's not ALWAYS the case. I noticed you failed to describe the "emergency" you experienced when you called 911.
There is also just so many officers on duty too.
If you don't think you have enough officers to respond to calls, then you need to contact your mayor or county officials. You also need to realize that this will cost you taxpayers more money too.
Another thing...if you had such a big emergency, why did you "give up" after being on hold for ten minutes?
Yikes.

your problem is not with the police being at dunkin donuts but the 911 call center you tried to reach. every time someone calls 911 for a non emergency it ties up the lines for the real emergency that is placed on hold, for every 911 hang up from a land line or cell phone we must call back to make sure their is no emergency this again takes valuable time away from the real emergency. maybe you should ask the question of why can't people take a few minutes to look up a non emergency phone number and use some common sense once in awhile.

I agree that this is a serious issue that needs to be adressed immediatly. But, given the late hour, and the fact that it was a weekend -- my guess is there's more accidents on the weekends-- the emergency services were slower. If you live in a small town/city, you probably don't have the best service there, becuase there's not a very high demand most likely. Hope this helped!

It's a busy time of the week. If you're put on hold when you call 911 (which happens sometimes in major metropolitan areas) do NOT hang up & call back. It takes several seconds, sometimes a minute, for the held line to clear, so by calling back immediately you're further delaying the answering of the phone and thus the arrival of help.

If you called 911 and were put on hold you should have hung up and called right back and gotten the name of the person that put you on hold and forgot about you. Each city has a certian amount of time that they are supposed to respond to emergencies in so I'd find out how long your cities is.

The weekends are the busiest time for emergencys. Anytime after 11pm, its gonna be a while before someone gets to you, because they are working on the bar scene and street racing.
Also the response time depends on the type of emeregency.

Look more closely at the first answer to your question.
it has much less to do with emergency service providers and everything to do with human misadventure.
Weekends are when people drink, congregate and otherwise get in trouble. Parties, street-racing, and drink induced stunts and fights all spike on weekend evenings.
Ask anyone who works with police, fire, ambulance or hospitals, they will confirm this.
