chihuahuas rule!

I don't know, I'm biased towards aminals that catch birds, or hunt cats with a big smile on their face. At puppy age they're just puddles of muscle with doopey eyes that chew most things. Well, straight off that's Labs and Retrievers and wolves, chunky friends. The sharper toothed cousins, perfect for an average domestic garden, also share that space with cats and I, occasionally mistake the two at a distance. Perhaps it's because cats are relatively individual, or because dogs that don't bound have necessarily more complex outlook on life. Perhaps they are more adaptable, they certainly seem more together (ha, ha). Fr'instance, if i wanted a pet for a young son to roll about with in the garden i think i would look about the kennels for a Setter or Retriever. But if a friend was wanted to potter around .. then, depending on the climate, a Chiwawa.

I personally don't like pomeranians & chihuahuas. I prefer large dogs & I think german shepherds, labs, & golden retrievers are awesome. If you are thinking about getting a puppy & have an apartment (& therefore can't have a large dog) I reccomend a miniature poodle (without the snobby haircut); they're sweet, playful, & cute. My aunt has one & he is so awesome; if I liked little dogs, I would get a mini poodle. Personally, I have a black lab & a lab-boxer cross who is a complete wuss (Really. The rabbit chases him. I have video proof).

I have only ever had large dogs, all mutts except for my lab & all have awesome personalities. DON'T get a purebred unless you want to show it later. Purebreds are more open to diseases. My old rottweiler/lab cross had purebred parents & they all died before the age of 7.

since you didn't indicate the reason for this particular question, how's this for an answer? you choices are made up of 3 larger and 2 small dogs. there are pros and cons to each. all large dogs require room to run. if you have the accommodations, and want to take on a large dog, they do seem to live longer than the smaller breeds. of the 3 large dogs you mention, my choice would be the golden retriever. they are kid friendly and incredibly loyal. they are not stubborn, as is the shepherd, and they are so eager to learn and be praised. if you choose the smaller breed. perhaps your living space and yard are limited in size.the smaller breeds don't have the same loyalty as the retriever. while they are cute, and cuddly, they are often hyper, and have a bladder control problem. these breeds are usually only loyal to one. and can sound or even be quite vicious while "protecting" their human. a great dog for small to large yards, double income/no kid families, homes with kids. they are family loyal, easy to train and live moderately long, healthy lives. do ya think i love dogs? well you are right, and i have owned, rescued, baby sat most of these breeds. good luck, but remember, this is a lifelong obligation, no matter how long your addition lives. nancy

I recon a Pomeranian is a great dog, Germain shepards are too much to handel, chiwawas tend to be aggressive, labs are big dogs but they would be great too, golden retrievers are really expensive but great dogs so i recommend either a pom, lab or a golden retriever.

Personally, Golden Retriever....intelligent, willing learners, obedient, loyal, gentle, very patient with children.

Pomeranians are very particular about who touches what...in other words, small children tend to irritate them easily. They also love to bark but they are adorable.

Chihuaha's are very barky and skittish, they get nervous easily and tend to be quite territorial and possessive which makes them more suitable to adult only homes.

Shepards are beautiful dogs and if trained correctly they can be every bit as super as the Retriever. They are protective tho and can be territorial but I've known shepards that are as gentle as kittens...all in the training.

Labs, these fellows can be large but they are docile, lovable friends. They aren't overly vocal but again, everything depends on the training. They are very good with children and aren't too prone to being possessive but they are dedicated and will protect their owners.

The Golden retreiver is the chosen dogs for the Blind because of their many endearing traits. If you want an easily trainable, loving, gentle, loyal and sweet pup...he's the one.

But...it all comes down to the breed you find the cutest and sometimes it takes meeting the puppies before you just know which one is going to go home with you.

Good luck

I have a black labrador retriver that is 6 months old. Here is how I think of those breeds,
Chiwawa, mean, I have had one that bit me and anybody else. They are one person dogs. They listen and let the person that they like best pet them.
Pomeranian-Sweet, but you have to groome them alot.
German Shepherd- Great Gaurd dogs, I have had two. They can sometimes be a little stubbron. So get a female.
Labrador Rertiver- They listen really good even when they are puppies, you can call them and they come instally to whomever called them. In my mind, they are great compaions and friends.
hope this helped

That's quite a range, if these are the breeds you are choosing between. Do you want a small dog, or big? High energy or mellow?

Pomeranian - cute lap dog, sometimes not great with kids
Chihuahua - cute lap dog, barks a lot, very loyal
German Shep - large and hairy, sheds a lot, very intelligent and trainable, needs exercise and mental stimulation
Lab - VERY high energy, puppy years can be very difficult due to their energy and exercise requirements, but wonderful dog as they get older
Golden - very hairy and shedding, all-around happy and friendly family dog

People really should stop asking which puppy they should get and look into the more important parts. Like if your able to afford such dog, vet cost, the size of the dogs, how much it eats and etc. Each individual breed had it's own good qualities, I would say choose one that fit best with your lifestyle and not because it look cute, big, fuzzy or small.

you mean Chihuahua?.....anyways...i love all dogs. i don't think one is better over the other. I've had one of all those breeds at one time or another; either as a foster dog, or my own pet. they are all great dogs with wonderful personalities.
Pomeranias are sweet and fluffy balls of energy, Chihuahuas are feisty, loyal tough guys, German Shepards are loyal and protective, Labs are bouncy and fun, and Golden Retrievers are good natured and lovable!
they are all great!

Other than the one mentioned in the question, go for a Boxer. It is very nice and loves one and all. Though it looks ferrociaus, when grown (may be after 2 years), it is very soft and learns too much beyond our imagination. It loves children and would like to play with them. Eating habits not that inclined towards NV. Likes boiled eggs given mixed with rice and milk
