I was thinking about Tom Cruise and his constant (and annoying) campaigning for Scientology, when I wondered, what is Scientology? What are their beliefs? Obviously they don't believe having a child out of wedlock is some kind of wrong. But anyway, what do Scientologists believe in?

The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."

Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.

Oh, just watch South Park. They did an okay job at opening the eyes of the average American; hence why Scientologiest got so mad.

They believe that, oh, geez, 10 Million or so yeas ago Aliens were brought to Earth, and their bodies dumped into volcanos. These spirits, called Theton (sic) are what cause us all our problems. Like my cronic Master.. well, nevermind. Scientologies believe that by using an E-Meter, a glorifiled ohm's meter, that they can detect these Thetons and get rid of them. Scientologiest hate psycologies because they believe that they are poisening our bodies with their meds. Sure. Geez, I want to give the Scientologist money so I can feel better about myself. Oh, wait, I'm not Tom homo Cruise.

scientology was a bet with some college professors in the 50s. Like eastern religions and yoga...it trys to get your soul/spiritual state to perfectness> Its all balony and sci-fi jibberish in my opinion. peace.

It has something to do with aliens coming down from space and contaminating the Earth. You have to go to their church and do everything they say to "cleanse" yourself. Theres like 8 different levels of "purity" from like 1-8 (8 being the purest). You should really try and look it up on www.wikipedia.com.
