The pups need to stay with their mom and littermates for at least 7 weeks. Mom will begin weaning them at about 6 weeks, but they need to stay with her, to learn all about being a dog. Pups that stay with mom and littermates for 7-8 weeks make much better pets. Mom teaches them to not play too roughly, and the littermates teach them to control their bites, etc....Its all about learning how to be a good dog.
You can begin feeding them mushy kibble at 4 1/2 weeks, but still allow them to nurse.
it is importaant to clip their toenails at 2 weeks, and again each week, or mom will get too scratched up and sore, and may quit nursing them before it is time.

I wean most my pups at 6 weeks, the itty bitty ones can go to 8-10 weeks. Some of the moms wean their pups at 5-5 1/2 weeks. Make sure the pups are eating well, wormed and vaccinated when they are weaned.
