Some Christians do and some don't. I personally can go either way. I see nothing wrong with it because God or especially Jesus never spoke out AGAINST it. During the time Jesus walked the earth the Romans used to execute prisoners all the time. He Himself was executed.

On the other hand, the Bible does teach "do not kill". But that's referring to innocent lives, not the guilty.

You may be thinking, "Well, if this is so, then why don't Christians kill prisoners today?" The answer is because we're not to judge as individuals. The government makes the laws.

Yes, they do. The Catholic Church does support the death penalty in extreme cases. I don't know all the reasons, but part of it is that it gives the guilty man a chance to be aware of his impending death and contemplate his crimes. This allows him the chance to convert and escape an unpredictable death which could catch him unaware. He/she is determined to be too dangerous and too much of a threat to society to be kept alive.

I cant answer for any other Christian except myself.

No, I dont support it. Of course, it takes the "State" about 20+ years in order to exhaust all the courts requests for reviews, but my ownly concern is, is it enough time for the person who has committed these crimes to find the LORD??

Yes, I am serious! When we get to Heaven, we may be suprised to find out that a lot of people where actually murderers and thieves and other things, that is despicable to us, in nature, but who have realized that they were with out the LORD, and repented and got "Saved"!!

Many Death Row Inmates find the LORD, and I hope and pray that they each have the time to do so...

Though, I dont deny that the Government has the right to put people to death, as they are our Masters and they will do as they see fit.

I dont have to like it, nor, do I like abortions, where the Doctor plays GOD!!

I wish you well..

Jesse

From what I remember from highschool ethics, the Catholic Church supports the death penalty incases of serial killers, where the person is highly likely to cause other people harm if left alive. Or something like that....

And, yes, I know that while all Catholics are Christains, not all Christains are Catholics, so dont harass me about that...

Is it more heinous to have a harsh penalty for crime or to allow crime to happen without it leading to significant punishment?

If the mandatory penalty for child molestation was that the offender would be skinned alive and then dipped in a vat of boiling acid, I'm sure the number of offenders would drop dramatically.

In my opinion, it would be less immoral to torture 500 child molesters to death every year than to have our current system where thousands of children are molested over the same period.

I don't think we'd have to go to the extreme of skinning criminals alive and dipping them in boiling acid, but I think you get the idea. Our current system is too lenient and allows innocent people to suffer so that criminals can get off easy. It needs to change.

as a christian, i do support the death penalty... does it really deter crime.. i tend to doubt it...then why have it? because as a christian and someone that has been around almost 50 years.. i know for a fact that there is evil in the world... and i believe there are evil ppl in the world...and as a christian, maybe i can forgive the evil that they have done... but i really believe some ppl just need to go.. they are a menace to society and need to be put to sleep--- am i fond of the idea....no...but such is the world we live in

some christian sects do...some don't. Baptist...let them fry. Catholic...nope, their conscience is better punishment than death. If you want to get theological about it, only God has the power to decide when someone should die, so when the state (a state, or the federal government) metes out capital punishment, it should make any Christian pause about that.

I can;t speak for all, but I am a Christian and can say that each sin needs a type of atonement made in order to repent. I believe a truly repentamt murderer would look forward to giving up his life in order to be sinless.
