God BEGINS the Book with LIGHT (not from the sun)
He created LIGHT to divide the day and night... BEFORE the sun... Gen 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Funny... God ENDS the Book with LIGHT (without need of the sun) just like He started it...
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

First, if you agree that there is an omnipotent God, then He can do whatever He wants. The light is created by His own power, and then to keep the sytem running, He creates the sun and stars so that He can remove His hand directly from the operations.
Second, it doesn't specifically state that He created the Sun on the third day, it states that they became visible. Just as the bible doesn't specifically say that He created Earth on the first day, He just separated water from land.
You can read into those words anything you want. Just as the Catholic church read into it a flat earth, the Bible specifically called the earth a globe. The point is that you either accept that there is a God, or you don't. Makes it real easy on Judgement Day when He plays back your life to you.

You made a valid point, and a Good question.
Ever noticed after the Sun goes down ,their is still a light?
Ever noticed the Earth from afar, gives off its own light?
So the Earth has its own light.
Genesis1:
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
This light is not talking about the Sun, but the light of the Earth.
The Sun is a sign for the Day and the Moon for night.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Because the day doesn't need the sun, it just needs to be light. Haven't you ever seen the daytime without seeing the sun? I know it's there now, but it didn't have to be then! What I think is cool is that He created plants before the sun!!
Much Love!!

You have to have an idea of something before you create it. all things start by thought before creation. even humans do that. first they think about what they want to make. then they make it.
