I LOVE DOING YOUR HOMEWORK!!! I'm guessing on this one, but I think it is C. because that's the kind of guy that Thoreau was. Your teacher must have told you the answer to this one in class, because this one is tough. He liked living a simple life, he didn't like paying taxes, so I would guess the only reason he thought anyone should have to work was if they loved it.

Thoreau strongly believed people should what they thought was right. He was an avid reader of the Bible, as well as the Bhagavad Gita. He loved to have time to think , but couldn't be bothered with thinking about trivialities. He felt that under a civil society with a civil government, people would follow the rules of the government because they were right. But he had no compunction to follow rules just because they were rules. So to answer the question, ask yourself, what is right?
