I've heard that stanless steel sinks are difficult to keep clean. Is there any truth to this?

I had a stainless steel sink and hated it. It wasn't that it was any harder to keep clean, but it just never looked shiny enough to make me think it was clean. I won't ever get one again.

Anyone that has owned a cast iron sink with porcelain coating has experienced the nightmare of unsightly chips. There just isn't any good fix for this condition; and in my view, that makes the product defective.

Most of the up-scale kitchens are going with granite tops and stainless steel sinks installed under the top to eliminate the hideous flange that inflicts most counter tops. However, keep in mind there is stainless steel, and then there is STAINLESS steel. That is, steel that is sufficiently free of ferrous alloys that cause rust. Your plumber or plumbing supply house should be able to direct you to a top quality product that will withstand the test of time.

For what it's worth, I practice what I preach. I have a stainless steel sink (which replaced el Porce) and I am happier than a pig in mud!

Depending on the look you want either could look good but I have never heard that a stainless sink was hard to clean. I had one in my last house and it was easy because as said above you can use about anything to clean them and it won't harm them. We have a porcelin one now and they chip, stain and get all kinds of marks on them.

I have had the same stainless steel sink in my house for 24 years now. They are wonderful. They don't chip and stain like the others. I use soft soap in mine, rinse it real good, then wipe it dry. I also like to use windex for a nice shine. I've never used a harsh cleanser like comet or ajax. After having this one, no way would I go back.

they make stainless sinks in different levels of shine from dull to very shiny. If taken care of a stainless sink is very good. They will not chip and stain like a porcelain. I never liked porcelain myself and have always had stainless. I just clean mine with pine sol and never have a problem.

I've always had stainless steel sinks and I've never had a problem with them. They're quite easy to keep clean. In fact, I think they're easier to keep clean because you can use semi-abrasive cleaners on them (such as Bonami, Comet, or Barkeeper's Friend) without any fear that they would scratch the porcelain.

I have had stainlee steel sinks in my kichen for 34 yrs. Never had a problem. They don't stain, scrath or chips, I clean my with household cleanser. They make special cleaners of stainlees steel if you prefer. Would never have another porcelain sink.
