My dog jumps the fence and wanders into the street and i dont want him to get hit. I heard of a spray that you can use that has a smell that iraitates dogs so much that they will not go anywhere near that area. 1) has anyone used such a product, 2) has it been effective and 3)In the absence of a product such as this what can i do so my dog does not climb the fence?

FYI I take the dog for walks everyday and he has full acces to the backyard and the whole house. He climbs the fence even when I am home. The only catch is that when i rescued him, he was a street dog, so right now I am trying to tame the beast

Yes, there is such product. It is called FCPR (Fence Climber Pet Repelant) It worked great with my German Shepherd. It is inexpensive, and practical, and available anywhere across the U.S. There is a catch though. It must be used at the time when the pet is climbing the fence, and there must be someone on the other side of the fence holding the spray can. In my case it was the Mail man who pepper sprayed my dog. ever since, He just looks at the fence but dares not climb it again.
If for any reason this method fails, then i highly recommend a leash, or a higher fence. and as a last resource a serious talk with him. Lay down the law, and let him know that it's for his best, he quits climbing the fence.

I'd once seen a product for people who wanted their cats to be able to go outside, but kept in their fenced yard. It was called a Sky Fence (sorry, I couldn't find it with a variety of searches). Basically it's like what you see with barbed-wire-topped fences that have the top angled in, but it was solid like wood or a very sturdy fabric. Since cats (nor dogs) can readily climb over such a barrier, and it makes the fence look much taller, they pretty much can't get out. It's probably an expensive proposition, but it's a possible solution. We always went into the backyard with our dogs (and sometimes the cats), so they were supervised and didn't have much of an opportunity to escape. - g^2

citronella. My co-worker put a collar on her dog and every time he barked, it sprayed some. He really hate the smell and it hit his nose when it sprayed, so he couldn't figuare out how it was happening and he didn't want it to continue so he stopped barking. The only other logical answer about the fence jumping is either to crate him in an enclosed run or to get an electronic (invisible) fence. You plant the markers about a foot from the fence and put the collar on the dog, when he passes across the invisible barrier, he'll get an extremely small shock. Nothing serious and nothing that would harm him. Look for it a Petco or Petsmart. Good Luck.

JUMPS? or CLIMBS?
Climbs- run a roll of chicken wire or durable netting along the inside of your fence so he cant get a foot hold (most garden stores carry suitable supplies)
Jumps... nueter, MORE exercise(maybe AM)Some high energy dogs need 3 HOURS high impact exercise PER DAY, Crate or own room when you are not home!
It is not an easy problem to solve and alot of shelters consider a chronic escape artist "unadoptable"! The product you are refering to can have extremely aversive effects on your dog! IE stress him out and make him very nervous and antsy!

Looking for the easy way out eh? Your dog jumps the fence because he is in prison. Would you like to sit in your room (or yard) day after day after long lonely day? Listen to the Dog Whisperer (or look him up online). Take your dog out for a walk EVERY day! Or, you might try on his 'shoes'. Stay in the house for weeks at a time. Do not answer the phone, do not look out the window and do not have company. See? That is why your dog jumps the fence. Skip the spray. Give your dog the love he gives to you. Do you love your dog? (The Inner Child does not like dogs either. Probably ties her dog up for hours. Shock em? That is what you should do to your kids, not your dog!Dogs are eager to learn and obey. Kids?....

Nope, the stuff will not work. Train the dog, build a higher fence, or keep the dog on a leash when it is outside.

in my view, the perfect procedure action is direct warfare of words. tell your neighbours you purchased a digicam, for in spite of reason, which printed them pepper spraying your canines. regrettably, we stay in a society the position canines nevertheless have a lot less rights over human beings. From a criminal perspective, your neighbours, before spraying, must have contacted the community RSPCA, Humane Society or the police, permitting them to furnish you with 'a delightful caution', explaining there's a difficulty, which permits you to take measures to circumvent destiny unwarranted reason for damage. certainly, you've been fortunate it became windy. in spite of the indisputable fact that, your neighbours committed an offence, legally, by technique of doubtlessly 'unfavourable' your sources, considering canines are considered sources by technique of regulation. hence, your neighbours are contained in the incorrect and think concerning the regulation on your aspect, this time. considering this is a first, that you're attentive to, you could frame of mind your neighbours in a 'pleasant', life like and rational way. the reality they now understand that you've a witness, will cause them to imagine two times, with the further digicam, counting on the nature of their reaction and the behaviour of your canines. the reality your canines has been provoked, regrettably does no longer help you and that is area of existence when we change into canines mum and dad. no remember how placid, in case your canines, by technique of protecting his/her territory were to attack between the neighbour's youthful toddlers, who should be actual terrorists and entirely at fault, in spite of the indisputable fact that the canines pays the price. If it were to bypass to a court of regulation at any time contained in the destiny, an experienced canines handler will examine the nature of the canines. this may ascertain any skill fines or punishments. one of those law is utilized in maximum international places that guard pets. What i do no longer understand, why the canines is outdoors once you're not from now on at living house? it truly is amazingly puzzling for most uk animal vendors to appreciate, considering a puppy remains interior, no matter if you're in or out. If I were you, i'd keep my canines interior and employ a canines walker for a mid-day damage. purely yet another frame of mind and desire this promises some foodstuff for concept.

Take your dog for a walk every day! If he gets to get out and see the world (and spend time with you), he will be much more content at home.
