this is specially for ppl 4m australia to answer....my buddy has gone to australia for studies...so i just want to keep myself updated about the place:)

to tll you everything about Australia would be anything but brief I will try and tell you things no one has said so far.

Australia is divided into states and territories the states are
Queensland
New South Wales
Victoria
Tasmania (An island state)
South Australia
Western Australia

The two main territories are
Australian Capital Territory (where our capital city, Canberra is situated)
Northern Territory

we also have quite a few other territories including an Antarctic territory and several islands.

The people in Australia are as diverse as the the people in the whole world, we have people from every culture, every socio-economic group, we have plenty displaced people, plenty of people who live pretty ordinary suburban lives, and others who live in cities or the bush (rural).

there are as many opportunities here as there are people and asmany difficulties as you care to find.

life here can be good or bad depending on what you want out of life and how much effort you put into it.

some great places to visit in Australia are:

Stanage in Qld which is a nice little fishing village on the coast.
Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) in Katherine in Northern Territory
Broome in WA where our pearl industry is based. The tides are so high and low it is amazing if you are there during a full moon you will see the stairway to heaven.
Hawkesbury River in NSW has many beautiful places to visit including Darug National Park, St Albans village has a historic Hotel made of local sandstone
Sydney Cricket Ground - a must see for sports fanatics check out a game of cricket in Australia's home of cricket

Our weather varies from the tropical far north to the rather chilly far south.

the water in our drains swirls in the opposite direction to the northern hemisphere...

Australia has had one of the most outstanding economies of the world in recent years. As a high-growth, low-inflation, low interest rate economy, it is more vibrant than ever before. There is an efficient government sector, a flexible labour market and a very competitive business sector.

With its abundant physical resources, Australia has enjoyed a high standard of living since the nineteenth century. It has made a comparatively large investment in social infrastructure, including education, training, health and transport.

The Australian workforce has seen many improvements over the last decade, leading to the surge in productivity in the 1990s. The complex and centralised award based industrial relations system has given way to a more decentralised one with many employees working under workplace agreements tailored to meet enterprise needs.

Immigration:
Australia's culturally diverse society includes its Indigenous peoples and settlers from countries all around the world.

Immigration is an important feature of Australian society. Since 1945, over six million people from 200 countries have come to Australia as new settlers. Migrants have made a major contribution to shaping modern Australia. People born overseas make up almost one quarter of the total population.

The federal government sets immigration intake numbers on a yearly basis. Australia's immigration policies are non-discriminatory and all applicants to migrate must meet the same selection criteria. more
