i hope to god you are kidding!!! unless you live under a rock, you would know that every veteran from every war or conflict has done something better for your life than you will ever know! i'd even go so far to say that unless you are a first generation immegrant to this country, you have a vet or somone currently enlisted in your family somewhere! people like you who don't support our vets and troops should be all put in planes and sent to these countries and do what the troops do! maybe then you would show some respect that is due to these outstanding men and women. you should thank your higher power every day that you aren't over there fighting, and that you live in this beautiful country that you apparently take advantage of (you sure are using your FREEDOM of speech!) and thank your lucky stars that you have the freedoms you do! and how dare you say it is a hand out. they have done everything on thier end of the contract. the government doesn't live up to half of the promises made by recruiters when all of the men and women signed up. the real hand out is the illegals who come here expecting to get everything in return for nothing, the people milking food stamps and welfare. be angry at them, not the people that made your life so easy and free without so much as a thank you in most cases!
by the way, i voted for kerry, i'm not a traitor, and i participate in politics and try to make our world a better place. anyone would be better than bush...and why not put a vet in office, at least kerry honored his orders and didn't hide under daddy's stacks of cash. kerry would at least give the honor to the vets they deserve.

Are you crazy. The veterans served this country, your country. They gave up several years of their lives to do it. In years past, young men were drafted into the service and did not have a choice in the matter if they weren't eligible for some type of deferment or served in the Guard. If you were 18 in the late 1950s and the 1960s you would probably be sitting in the jungles of Vietnam scared ****less hoping and praying you'd make it home in one piece and then when you got home you were ridiculed because you were a soldier. So think about how lucky you are.

Well, Smelly, these people obviously do not understand irony, even with your "Additional Detail" very broad hints. Personally, I am appalled at the cuts to military & veterans benefits made by Bush (NOT Clinton; Clinton has been out of the White house for 6 years, it's time to stop blaming everything that happens NOW on him) & his rubberstamp congress. I recently saw in Time that in the last 5 years, homeless veteran rates have soared, and that 10% of those homeless veterans served in Desert Storm or Iraq.

Everyone is always carrying on about supporting our troops, and sticking those infernal 'Made in China' magnetic yellow ribbons on their cars, but noone seems to be paying attention to the fact that our veterans are getting screwed, and screwed bigtime. It's just disgusting & hypocritical.

From a Vets point of view, I don't think that we should endure any more cuts in our health care. Frankly, the health care now, well pretty much blows, but on the same hand, at least we get something. As for those that have been in the military most of their lives, should have everything paid for, and in most cases they are not. It's a shame!

Hell no! You are out of your ever-loving mind! People serve in the military to protect idiots like you and your right to shoot off your mouths...even if you have less than enough brain cells to rub together. It is amazing for someone to be as dense as you are. The veterans pay for the health care and other benefits with their blood and time taken out of their lives to defend the country. The only thing between us and terror are our active duty forces and veterans. Had our vets not chosen to serve, your stupid butt could be killed, maimed or locked up in a labor camp somewhere. You are quite a piece of work.

Free handouts huh? didn't do one thing to earn them? You sure you wanna come down here & say that to my face? I disliked Kerry no end, but those that voted for him weren't traitors, just misguided & nieve.

The VA is jacked up like most everything else the govt touches. If I were president we'd scrap it & start over with much better benefits that would be much less expensive to deliver/manage. Don't be an idiot alright. Unless you've EARNED the right to speak on a subject to people who have EARNED it, then please keep it to yourself.

Actually i don't agree with you on this one. The veterans did a great service for our country yet it's easier for someone on welfare to get health care than it is for them to. If someone works for a regular company for x amount of years and accrues a pension usually that means they get health benefits as well, why should veterans be any different?

It's not a "free handout" when you get a contractually agreed-upon payment for services. So, unless cuts can be made while still providing what is owed to veterans, the answer is No.

I think cuts should start at the welfare and methadone clinics...

As for Veterans...They are the heart of this country...they leave their country, families, and give their lives to fight for our safety and freedom, at a very low rate of pay...Surely they deserve respect!! Benefits to Veterans are not handouts...They have justly earned them !

P.S....I wouldn't vote for Kerry if he was the only one running!!

I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS WAR BUT YOUR President sent our soldiers to fight his war and we damn well are going to take care of them when they need it . You selfish B$%&^&$# .
