When I answer questions I take lots of time and effort and put care and understanding into them. I do not try to be the "First to Answer" in other words. No answer takes me less then 30 minutes on average. I do not attempt to be a smartassbuttkindofguy, but I will throw some humor into my answers. What do members with actual real questions prefer? Short and to the point answers, or long and explainatory answers, (you know, the ones with reason behind them)???
Please let me know your opinions on this.
Thanx,

It really depends on the question. Some questions don't require long explanations, simple answers can do fine. Other question may need more explanations behind the answers.

When I ask about opinions I want to hear what the opinion is and why the person has this opinion. I want some reasoning.

I don't mind long answers. I actually often find them more interesting than the really short ones. First and foremost the answer must have some actual content, it must tell me something, give me an actual answer the question. I hate answers that don't really say anything or are irrelevant or full of smartass attitude.

I appreciate it when people take the time to answer well. You can really tell the difference whether people take their time or answer in a hurry.

I myself usually try to answer well even if it means putting time and effort into the answers, but I know that sometimes a short answer will do and sometimes I want to answer but don't have much time to do it as well as I'd like to.

I just try to judge it by the question.

What I do and prefer when answering or asking is "detail" I hate the smart-*** answers to get the 2 points. When I am answering a serious question I spend no less than 30 minutes on my thoughts and concern. I endeavor to give the best answer to be helpful. If I get the 10 points then all good for me.

I rarely even respond to something that I can not actually give a full and complete answer to. Thus I only chose to answer question of concern or that I may have an opinion on such are your question.

Anything that takes more than a few paragraphs is too long. At times I have voted a "best answer" for the answer of 3 that had the same information, but was the most concise without rambling. You can still get your reasoning in without going onto multiple screens.
I almost never vote for an answer with spelling and grammatical errors.

It really irritates me when a question goes on forever as well. If it scrolls off the screen, I never answer it. You've seen them - "So OK i was in this situation the other day and I say . . . and then he said . . and my mom said . . so now I . .and should I do A . .or B. . or CDEFGH? Wat wud U do?"

Scanning the selection of answers you have gotten so far, it seems most think your way is best, but some want it short and sweet, too. I tend to agree with your way of answering questions. However, I don't want to read a lot of verbiage that is copied or imported from some reference work, unless it is very, very relevant to my question and helps me appreciate the answer, and maybe the answerer.

In general, I don't want answers to be any longer than I write most of my answers; that is 500 to 700 words, or three to five paragraphs or segments.

The problem I have with answers is that I have to read them all before I chose a "Best Answer." If they are inordinately long or windy or irrelevant, I do tend to skip over some material for expediencies sake. I have only so much time to spend.

Hope this answers your question.

Short and precise for genuine question's. Short and rude and sarcastic if it's some dumb queston.

Long answer's are usually a product of Copy/Paste from some other site after a search on the question posted, with the intention to get the "Best Answer" and bonus points.

i noticed that some solutions provide too a lot ingredient and better ideas than needed. now and again those info are of its personal lingo that the questioner does no longer understand. i imagine an effective answer is one which has adequate ideas offered to furnish a answer and written in a way that the questioner can understand. an effective answer ought to no longer be counted only on a link to a special internet website. length ought to no longer remember except that it truly is adequate. in my view i love atleast a 4 to 5 sentence answer.

JD,
First I like they be answered.
As for wordy, if it is a worthy
answer, I'll take it.
Some of the best
answers are very short,
and very comical.
And then there are those
who go on and on and on
about themselves....
So, adjust to the question.
Remember, we seem to
live in an instant gratification
society....
Happy answering!

Looks like your method works pretty good, looking at your percentage of best answers. Mine is still at 1 percent. I like people that seem intelligent, well informed, and know how to use the English language properly. These seem to be unpopular with most people though, considering my percentage of best answers.

anything really doesnt matter as long as it answers what you want..if one is short and sounds better than one long than there..but i dont think length really matters..im not saying writing long is wrong..just if the answer can be given in short terms then so be it..if not than ..longer the better...but i guess it depends..as long as the questioned is answered then yay!

When I answer the questions some heavenly body come and sit on my tongue and fill my mouth full of words. I speak them first then type on my computer. It is all God's grace .
