I've asked myself that question many times and I can only say that I think people still think that there's something good in everyone and many are still shocked when their expectations are not met.Even our leaders are human and there for very capable of deceit .I think most politicians only lie when their lips move.

First you have to remember the "Golden Rule"...he who has the gold makes the rules and therefore writes the history of a country. This is not just relevant to the US but to every other wealthy country out there.

All leaders lie and people of all races and countries are gullible. There are a certain few who do not take things for face value and actually research their politics, so to say that the american people are gullible is a very generalized statement which holds no merit.

No I don't agree, however, consider what a politician must do to get into office. Presumably, he or she must make promises to people with money in order to get funding for an election and to be elected. Most large contributors to election war chests are organizations or people with interests to protect. (Sometimes at the expense of the masses) The kind of people that we reward with a public office are schmoozers of the highest order. Good, decent honest people who honor their word try not to make promises they can't keep. As a result, they don't promise to save the environment, create new jobs, save the whales, lower the cost of health care, not cut Social Security, provide better education, increase National Security and not raise our taxes all at the same time. They also try to make a better world for all of us, not just special interest groups. That's why they'll never get elected. As far a people responding with utter gullibility. I don't think they're gullible, just apathetic. When your national elections become a choice between the lesser of 2 evils, what else would you expect?

How exactly is lying "fundamentally and historically embedded in the American culture?" You obviously haven't studied enough American history.

Absolutely not. Politicians don't really think they are "lying" to the people, just saying what they think the people need to hear. Because lying is not embedded in the culture, people tend to be lazy and trusting. Especially if the politician makes a big public deal of his religion or morality.

Yes our gov lies to us. But we are smart enough to know that we are being lied to. We are just not able to do much about it. Just like NK or any other country. The gov lies to them. What makes you think your country don't lie to you? Don't you get news papers and don't you know how to read? I am sure half of the people in the USA knows they are being lied to and the rest don't even care long as it don't affect them driectly.

Really? What makes you think you know everything that is going on in your country? Where are you from? We can read your news papers just by ordeing them. We have no limits on the internet like other countries do. I don't feel that there is anything that any other country knows that we don't in the USA.

And why do your leaders lie to you? If they did tell you everything your country would go down so fast to the bad guys it would not be funny. I promise you do not know every thing either and you are being lied to. Or are they really lieing to us? I think it is more of just not telling us. And if we don't know I'm sure you do not know either.

They don't respond with utter gullibility. Only the stupid media does. What the stupid people do is allow this to continue without doing anything about it, unfortunately.

It's the same in every country. If they reduced the power of the president and gave his portion of power to an unbiased person he wouldn't get away with lies.

Will never happen, but I don't see many other choices.
